All people are created equal, apparently some are more equal than others.

I find the ideas of these folks hard to relate to.

Fascinating study and view behind the hijab. All I've ever seen are their eyes (if that) ... nice to see some very attractive ladies for once.

My question is "Are they happy?" I don't see a lot of smiles.

I agree that it's hard to understand, especially as a Westerner. Their customs, beliefs, laws, etc. ARE foreign to us because, thank goodness, we live in a free society where such laws and customs of oppression will not be tolerated. It's facinating, and photos like these are intriguing, because it is forbidden. I pray that in my lifetime we witness freedom for he oppressed women all over the world, not just the Middle-East.

Good question. Maybe if they showed happiness they would be viewed as "coming on" and would be beaten. Iranians are pretty people, but they are Muslim and that must play a big role in their outward behaviors.

Yes, outward behaviors are dictated by Sharia LAW, which is embraced by some but enforced upon all.
I saw an interview once of an American woman who embraced Islam (much to her family's disbelief) and said she actually craved the "structure and old-fashioned roles of men and women." Her goal is to live in Tehran. It's hard to understand, but at least in the US, she is FREE to decide for herself! :-)

We don't understand Islam, and because we don't understand, we too often condemn without learning. Islam can be nearly as varied as Christianity.

In the Christian religion, we all read the Bible, but we have very different views and interpretations of many parts of scripture, based on the denomination to which you belong.

There are a number of sects in Islam, and they rarely play well with each other. One may say that a woman only has to cover her hair, and not completely. Another may require the full hijab. One sect may allow a woman to drive a car, where another wouldn't hear of it.

I'm not saying we should all convert, but I just try to learn about different cultures without condemning them.

Yes, free to decide for herself in the U.S. Great country we still have here going for us. Didn't know that outward behaviors were actually dictated by Sharia LAW. Thanks for the information.

Good to hear your opinion. Yes, we should all be interested in learning about other cultures, and not to condemn. God knows that we have our various way of believing in this country, and we do have some real weird ways of going on about our beliefs, as in all cultures. Tolerance in all.

Thanks for hearing what I had to say. Not everyone is so tolerant, that's appreciated.
