There is so much wonderful color in this little street scene and that needs to be emphasized. Its a nice composition but I think could be better if cropped down from the top to just above the street lamp. Nice eye for art.

This shot is lovely! The only negative I see is the top of the rear building is blown out. If you have the RAW image, you could possibly recover this and still have the foreground exposed correctly.

I have taken this shot in so many places. I like the way the sidewalk brings the eye through the shot. If it were mine I would play with the colors a bit more, not much. Make them pop. As Carly said, crop it to the street lamp. Get rid of the blown out sky. Good shot.

I told you I am tech impaired! I haven't done any editing but realize I should learn in order to maximize my photography. This was not shot in RAW.

Definitely learn. I find I get a lot of creative satisfaction in post-production.
If you cannot recover the blown out area, you could crop above the lamp, but then you will have the pole from the awning and the black rectangle to the right as a distraction, so that has to be cloned out. And, there would still be a blown out area. I might erase/clone out the window and bit of architecture above it to remove that detraction.

There are a lot of things pulling on my attention in this shot. I'd like to see a definitive center of attention. If you were at the bottom of the lower staircase and shooting up at the building with the red grill and doorway---that would provide a real focus. Then perhaps showing just a little of the walkway/railing trailing out of the picture to the left---Now we have a center and a suggestion of more sights to come.

I am really enjoying the shared thoughts and suggestions! I have always been more of a "recorder of images" than an "artist" and don't feel confident in the PP realm. I see what you are saying that would improve the image but wouldn't have come up with the ideas on my own.

Well then Picas is made for you. A free program to all those that down load it. It will help you catalog your photo's and also assist you in down loading them. It will also allow you to adjust you photos to what you eye saw, not what the camera saw. Since the camera can only see 10th the colors your eye can see. It's not a high tech program but will help most photos come to life a little better. Just My Two Cents.

Hi TB4, welcome! I think this is a beautiful and interesting composition, full of little delights to discover as you move through the scene.
As for post-processing, I was dragged kicking and screaming into its world, and now enjoy it. Once you have done a few tweaks that make your image look better, you'll be hooked.
However, I also think that critique is often skewed to the technical, whereas a pleasing composition, interesting subject, or artistic eye, to me is the most important thing in photography!

TB4 I downloaded this (hope you don't mind I didn't ask) and played with it in CS5 by opening in Camera Raw. Try as I might I could not remove the aforementioned blowout, so as a later poster suggested I cropped it just above the lamp.
What is so cool about this picture is the colors. For some reason southern France and Italy have the most vibrant colors.
