5 year coverage with drops & spill coverage?

Curious as to what most photographers feel about drops and spills coverage on a camera. I am looking to purchase a refurbished Canon 7D for $940. they cover drops and spills for 5 years for an additional $64.00 . Is this something most of you would do?

Depends on how you use your camera and around whom? I have 4 grandkids; I like to do nature and wildlife and am not as sure footed as I once was...I get the warranty. I figure I have a better chance of using it than the standard camera warranty. Luckily, I've never had to use it on a camera; I have, however, used it on a cell phone that took a bath courtesy of the youngest. It was a brand new smartphone and would've cost a pretty penny to replace had I not had the warranty. $64 isn't much compared to the price of your camera. Piece of mind is worth more than $12-13 a year.

figured out on a per year bases not too bad for peace of mind and I did drop a $400 lens that was unfixable guess it could have been a camera . this will be my biggest single investment

At close to $1000 it's a big investment, and unless you are in a position to easily replace it...the warranty is a good deal. I figure if I can replace it without putting it on plastic - I'll take my chances; otherwise, unless the warranty/insurance is ridiculously high, I get the warranty/insurance.

Check with your insurance company for an articles policy. I even have my Apple $2K laptop covered. Peace of mind. I have State Farm.

I generally avoid warranties of that type like the plague and $64 for 5 years seems too reasonable. I would check what it covers and how much they will pay you, and any limitations you may be subject to very carefully. If it really is above board once you read the fine print than at the price you might want to consider it.

Who would repair the camera? Canon? Is the repair facility in the US or would you have to ship it to exocit lands?
Price is great, but those are the questions I would start asking.

Where are you getting this refurb?
And as others have said, we would need to see details of this extended warranty, as it sounds way too inexpensive and five years is a long time.

One 'drop' could total a camera. Are they saying you get perfect repair or full replacement for a dropped and busted camera even five years later?!
That doesn't make sense. What would stop somebody from purposely dropping their camera on the rocks after four and a half years and then putting in a claim for a replacement.

Plus how do they know they will still have nice condition 7Ds laying around five years from now to provide replacements.
Something does not sound right here.

Read the fine print on the policy (usually available after you buy it!) Most of those drops and spills insurance have a lot of "excepts", like weather and blowing dust.
Do check with your homeowners (or renters) insurance company for a rider to cover your equipment. My AAA coverage is $17/yr for $500 coverage. And it covers everything: drips, spills, rain, theft, etc. On verification of loss they will send you a check for replacement value up to your $ limit. I just got a check to replace my stolen camera. Took 2 days.

My hubby (now retired) who was in the insurance business for his whole career always thought product insurance was risky as these insurors are usually small businesses that may be here today and gone tomorrow. Something to think about.

$64 sounds too good to be true. Check it out carefully. If it's legit, please pass on the information, I would jump on it.

If I'm not mistaken, there's an extra home policy from state farm that will cover you for 3% of your total photography equipment per year for drops and theft.

This could be a better deal in the far run with more encompassing protection for your gear.

Well, call me a sucker. I bought the insurance. I will have to check with my insurance company as well for future purchases.
