Mars & Saturn This Morning

Was up at 6:00 am this morning and went outside. Couldn't pass it up.
There was Saturn, Mars and a slice of the moon just begging me to take
their picture. So I did with my laser guided SX 50

Only shots of Saturn and Mars that I've ever seen. Nice. Awesome moon shot. The detail is great and it's quite sharp. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! I can't believe that Excelsior Springs is so much closer to Mars!
I've tinkered with my SX50 and Jupiter, but will now have to aim for Saturn.

Actually the Green laser beam is used as a finder. I point the beam at the
object I'm seeking say Saturn. Then I look at the LCD camera display and
Saturn is displayed. Then I use the zoom on the camera which is a Canon
SX 50 and zoom in to 200X. Then I push the shutter button half way down
to focus then all way down to take the picture. I have set the camera built
in timer to 10 seconds. This is so I will have no camera movement after the
shutter is released. The ISO I use for all astrophography is 80 and shutter
speeds run from 40 for Saturn to 100 for my moon shots. I do use a external
shutter release. Just makes it easier . I do have a 80 mm refracter telescope
And I have taken quite a few pictures with my old Fuji F-30 camera held up
to the eyepiece. But I will say, that just the SX 50 camera by it's self has done
better for me. If I had not seen it, I would not believe it. I just can't believe
that a camera 4 inches long can take better pictures than I can take through
my telescope which is about 15 inches long. Now this is not a cheap scope,
but a handmade Stellarvue made by Vic Maris in California. Cost 500.00
and the eyepieces I use are Nagler and Panoptic which cost 330.00 each.
So I use good equipment . I get lots of "Wows" when I let other people look
thru my scope at Star parties, so it is no "Dog". That is why this camera just
blows me away doing what it does. I still can't believe it. Going to a star party
in May and all I'm going to take is the camera. I'm either going to be the hit
of the party, or they are going to run me off! Don't know how they will take
it. I would hate to be the guy, "Well I am really" who has a thousand dollars
or more tied up in a scope and this guy "Me" comes along and just blows
everybody out of the water with his Laser guided camera. Ought to be FUN!
