Always been in auto focus. Just getting use to manual focus. When in auto, at focus green led lights and focus boxes appear. In manual green led off until focus close then it starts flashing and beeper beeps. Just the teeniest movement takes it from solid green to flashing. Same with both my lenses a nifty 50mm and the kit 18 mm 135mm. Is this normal?

Chris, I don't know your camera. But if I am using manual focus, I completely ignore ANY camera confirmations of focus. For me manual focus is for special occasions, such as at night, when the camera cant lock focus, or the focus is too intertwined with other aspects of the pic.
I use live view on 10x if using manual focus.
Between when your indicators go off and you stop moving the focus ring, is just too far.
I have no idea why you are using manual, so if I'm off base, please just ignore what I've said. ;-)

I have never used manual before. It was dark and I didn't want flash. Playing with 50mm f1.8. It took a while to realize what the flashing and buzzing was about. I didn't think it could go from confirmation off to confirmation flashing to confirmation on in a hardly perceptible move of the ring. I suppose I could turn off the beep but the screen grid lines flash too. Very distracting. Just wondered if this was normal or maybe there is a sensitivity setting for manual. The instructions don't say much. They say flashing means it's not focused. But it only flashes when close. If it's miles out of focus the confirmation is off not flashing.

Chris, if it drives you crazy, yes, turn the alarms off.
Better yet, I'm sure your 70 has at least one or more custom settings on the top dial? Most better Canons do. It's one of the beauties of a Canon. Stet one of your custom settings as you would like for night shots, that means with all the bells off, and any other preferences for night shooting. Then simply turn that dial for night mode and back for day mode. Will take literally 3 seconds, maybe less!
It's hard to realize just HOW sensitive and precise the Auto Fucus is in a camera, untill you start to do it manually, especially if using a lens like a 50 1.8. Some fast lenses actually have several manual focus speeds, or it's almost impossible to focus them manually. Again, if on a tripod, use live view.
Sorry I don't know anything about your camera, I'm sure you'll get it worked out. Enjoy your 70, very nice camera, I hope you use the movie mode!! ;-)

that because you set the exposer wrong large aperture set at F5.6 and its fast shutter
F/32 small aperture and slow shutter speed.

I have the 60D. What you are experiencing is quite normal when you have the AF switch on your lens in the off position. You can turn off the beep if it annoys you. I personally always have it off. I actually find the focus light useful since it tells you when the lens thinks you are in focus and you can fine tune it manually from there. If you have a lens with FTMF and leave the AF switch in the on position, the AF light will operate differently.

just another quick question. When looking at the led display after a photo, sometimes bright parts show as black and flash. The manual says they might be black although the picture won't be but they don't mention about flashing.

What you are describing sounds like the result of the Highlight alert feature being turned on. It can be disabled in the menus. It indicates portions of your picture that may be overexposed. It often flashes on bright lights in a darker scene or a bright sky when the subject you focused on is darker. And, by the way its an LCD display, not an LED display

Thanks should have known that.

I use Canon equipment, and the flashing normally means your shutter speed and aperture are not set correctly, for the correct exposure.Check your 70d's manual.

That's altogether different from what the OP described. In his initial post he was asking about the focus notification light flashing during manual focus, and in his second question he asked about flashing in the images on his LCD as he reviewed them. You are talking about flashing caused by an incompatible aperture and shutter speed which is not what he was asking about.

No reason for an apology,... and I'm confused most of the time. :)
