What an amazing capture (yours and the hawk's! I'm no help with the ID and I always feel sorry for the victim even though I know the hawk has to eat.

I was so busy trying to get a half decent shot of the Yellowhammers on the ground. They were approx 50 metres from the hedge that I was climbing through.

Took some shots with the P520 quite close to full zoom them looked back into the field to see they had all gone but there were 2 or 3 feathers drifting on the breeze near where they had been.

I am assuming that it must be a Sparrowhawk that came through and grabbed one of the little birds. If anyone out there is clued up enough to confirm or refute my thought would love to know your thoughts.

Great catch! I love to download my pictures and find a treasure that got into the shot.

Thanks for stopping by Gregory. Absolutely no credit to me other than deciding to go walking in that area at that time. But I'll take it.

Hi Wonky, its a great capture and I think its probably the male of either a Merlin or a Sparrowhawk. its a bit difficult to relate the size in comparison to the Yellowhammers.

Hi Mike, thanks for the visit. I regularly see Red Kites, Buzzards and a Peregrine in the area but can tell it wasn't any of these. I would assume that Sparrowhawks frequent the area as well so that is my choice.
