I currently use the Nikon D5100 (2 years) and plan on purchasing the D7100. Any users on here have any feedback on the camera? The reviews I've read so far are very impressive.

Rumor has it that Nikon is going to release a newer model in this line, anybody heard anything on this?

One more question on the D7100. Does it have a DOF preview. The D5100 does not and I think this would be another useful feature if it does.

I have the D7100 and I love it. It is an awesome camera. I don't know about a DOF preview, sorry. I have started a collection of FX lenses and when I obtain 2 more I will probably step up to an FX box like the D800 but I will keep my D7100 as a second camera. Good luck and have fun.

I gave my sons d7100s as Christmas gifts. I was so impressed with the camera that I got one as a backup for my d800e. Yes it has a dof preview. Good shooting!

Brandmic, do a Google search "D5100 vs D7100 for a side by side comparison for all the added features of the D7100 over the D5100. ;)

I find the all the "scenes" modes taken from point and shoots and the "effects" program are a bit silly a prosummer grade camera but since they have the software from the point and shoots it will probably sell a few more cameras and bring the price down. I can live with it and may even use a few of the effects. That said it is a great camera. I don't know how they are going to improve on it. - dave

The buffer is its weakest point. There are lots of things that would improve it.

i wish someone would tell me how to prevent it from changing from single-point to multi-point and how to prevent it from over-riding my iso selection when it knows i'm wrong..

see pg 81 I think par 2 will prevent iso override. Don't know about focus points. (I just haven't used d7100 enough to run into the problem).

For single point focus, press the AF mode and rotate the front "sub-command dial" to move it to single-point AF (S) (D7100 manual, p 73-74).

right on amehta for M,A,S and P. My peev is that if i go to Auto the focus goes to default matrix.

No question about it jimq, pages 79-85 are required reading.

I've had ISO sensitivity off for 6 months, it still attempts to protect me when i try to under-expose a couple stops.

i hate it when "The Man" takes it upon himself to "protect" us from ourselves.

I had the same problem when I got my D7100, found the solution but can't remember exactly where, somewhere deep inside the menu, seemed like a very unlikely place to me at the time. Wish I could help more, but alas my memory was used too much when new.

What is the advantage in shooting in Auto instead of P?
