This past week I picked up a Sigma Art Series 24-105, Tamron 70-200 2.8 and a used Nikkor 300 F4. Can't wait for better weather so I can get out and use them.

Between work and weather, I haven't been able to get out much. Maybe next weekend I will get 2 days off.

You don't need good weather. Some of the best shots are taken in the worst weather.

Complete overcast, cold and windy? That is what I usually have for about 2 hours before dark. Tomorrow is forecast to be nice though. No ice covered roads, sunshine and warm. Too bad nothing is green yet.

At least you're not stuck on one brand! ;)

 I go with whatever gets the best reviews that I can afford, and some I can't afford.

Imagemeister, your sage opinion is requested. Getting ready to order my new 5d mkiii but still haven't decided on the lens. I know I want an IS zoom but some of the reviews of the latest Canon offerings are not as great as past iterations. Saw a Sigma24-105 with OS with a little better review but still generally average. I just want to get the most out of this camera. Any thoughts?

35 1.4, 85 1.2, to start with. My personal experience with 24-105 wasn't all that great. If you don't mind manual focus go with Zeiss.

Joe, I am not pretending to be anywhere near as sage as the Miester, but I am not aware of ANY Canon branded lens that is not BETTER than its previous iteration! Nor am I familiar with any in that zoom range that have not gotten good reviews. More expensive, yes...., but not as good, no. JFYI. ;-)

The Sigma Art Series is an excellent lens.

I'd love to see what that lens can produce. I got the Tamron 24-70/2.8. Now I just need the time to go out and shoot!

Thanks SS....do you see any benefit to staying with Canon lenses for my 5d mkiii as opposed to using the sigma 24-125?
