I have no issue with any of your pictures. I quite like them even aside from the fact that they could be improved in PP.
I have not said I have any issue with your photos.
One of you guys invented that strawman.

You're right. I didn't say my pictures couldn't benefit and I've never said they're 100% perfect out of the camera.

Guess, I should slink away with my tail between my legs.........

Thanks Rich. I'm sure some in this thread likely don't like either of these pictures. But I do and that's good enough for me. Here's another shot I took with my D7100 and my AFS-DX 18-200. I like this shot as well and again, I didn't do anything with it after taking the shot.

That looks pretty good from here. Might increase the color temp just a hair....personal preference I guess. We have the vr1 version of that lens. It still gets used frequently on the D300s. Not the sharpest in the bag but very versitile.

Currently, there is another discussion on this site about "I don't do any post-processing, because I nail it perfectly in the camera". Frankly, I haven't met but maybe less than 1% of photos that couldn't stand a little bit of post processing work.

I'd like to see some examples from others that say they do 0 post-processing and there is absolutely nothing that could be better with their image...so the rule is, SOC (straight out of the camera) images only...no cropping, or white balance adjustments, cloning, etc.

Let's see some examples. Personally, I don't have any.

I always shoot RAW, since I first realized the additional potential these files have, and I always adjust my photos, usually in LR. So for this exercise I had to retrieve a day's photos from October when my OMD-EM5 had a mental breakdown and for that day would only shoot jpeg and could not be persuaded to do otherwise.

Here's 3 versions of the same photo shot in jpeg only
#1 - In-camera jpeg with default settings which in Olympus cameras do a pretty darned good job. However, there was fog, which diminished contrast, the combination of fog and shadow fooled the auto WB, and there wasn't enough detail in dark areas.
#2 - Above jpeg edited in LR with my normal LR preset to address lights/darks, contrast, clarity, then removed a couple of small distractions, adjusted WB, a couple of radial filters and sharpened.
#3 - Above jpeg edited in PS5 and NIK color efex . I wanted a more artsy version so cropped differently, added an Orton effect, more specific contrast adjustments, some color adjustments and some dodge/burn

I have no problem with anyone shooting with any camera, any settings, and any pp they prefer since that is what I do. But I enjoy the pp almost as much as taking photos, and that's where I really get to be more creative. And I cannot remember taking a photo that didn't benefit from a little something. Our cameras just don't see like our eyes do, and if I am to make a photo represent what I experienced, I need the pp tools to do it.

I think this image is a perfect example of SOC perfect image. Let me explain my reason, to some people who don't use PP on there images this would be a perfect image SOC to them because it gives a true representation of what the day looked like to them, yes the fog makes that part of the image a little over exposed but if we were there our eye would not of seen it that way. So do you use a gradient filter on your lens to balance this image if you were shooting film I think you would to get the exposer right from the fog down. The second image shows what a person might have been able to get close to not attain but get close SOC with enough effort and care, but you couldn't get close to the third image without PP

Thanks. And yes, the 18-200VRII is not the absolute sharpest, but it's just so darn versatile that it gets used a lot.

OK.....I'll bite. First of all, I was in the other thread. I never said I don't PP. I said, I don't do a lot of PP. I have no aversion to PP, but I take pictures for my enjoyment and a lot of what I take is "good enough" for me. I'm not looking for anyone to make either of these un-PP'd pictures better to show me I should PP more, though if you feel it's your "calling" to do so, knock yourself out. I'm not foolish enough to say my pictures couldn't benefit from PP. They're just often good enough for my needs. As an FYI, these were both shot with my Nikon D7100 and AFS-DX 35mm F1.8.

The first one the only thing I would say it needed to be perfect SOC was to have your sensor cleaned . Yes PP would make it better but is this what it looked like to you that day? If so excellent job

The camera's pretty darn new, so I don't think the sensor needs to be cleaned. Do you see any dust spots? And to my eye, it looks pretty much the way it looked when I took the picture. But I'm not saying PP couldn't or wouldn't make it better. I'm just saying it looked good enough to me that I didn't feel I needed to spend time PP'ing it.

I'm glad I started this thread. I love you guys/gals here.

You've started an insurgency. I PP but never a lot... I'm really not very experienced at it. My camera shoots great soc jpegs, that require very little or no anything!
CD, I've never known a Canikon to not have to spend some serious time in post-op, but not so with Oly.

In case there's anyone who wants enlightenment on the issue of SOOC v. PP - 15 minutes. A Nazi is a Nazi. I PP and I SOOC and I don't care much more for a PP Nazi than for a SOOC Nazi or an Oly Nazi or any other kind of Nazi. Each person can have their preference without trying to squash everyone who disagrees with them. Do what works for you and to hell with the Nazis.
