The new Olympus Stylus 1 is a great little camera. Constant f2.8 throughout also.

OK, but at that price, I could get both the FZ200 and the SX50.

FZ200 is quite nice, take a look at Fuji X-S1 I think it is one step up, but little larger and much better image quality.

Thanks, Alois. I did seriously consider the X-S1. Don't rememer why I eliminated it from my list.

I want to upgrade my old P&S, a Canon S3IS. At first, my search leaned towards a mirrorless camera plus a telephoto lens. But then the price hit home...ouch! Then a friend suggested a Canon SX50 super zoom...neat camera with which I would probably be more than satisfied. However, after spending the past month reviewing similar cameras, I became quite attracted to the Panasonic FZ200. It's constant f2.8 Leica lens, higher resolution EVF and higher shutter speeds at low ISO levels is most appealing. I'm sure the 600mm zoom will be more than adequate. After all, I’m not a birder, just a grandfather.

I've read many of the UHH posts already so I guess I don't have to ask for opinions. After much hand-wringing, the decision has been made. I’m ordering the FZ200.

I bought the SX50 and have been very satisfied. Recently took a safari trip to Africa and took it as my only camera. I also took a monopod to help on the zoom shots. I like the quality of the pictures and the extra bells and whistles. Probably most cameras in this category have some positives and some negatives. Good luck with your search.

yes, many to choose from. I am leaning to the Fuji SL1000 but also can't find one to put my hands on. The Canon SX50 just did not feel right. So when I buy I will buy where I can return. I will revisit the FZ200. Good luck!!

Thanks to all for their suggestions. What I find interesting is that in my initial post, I did state that my decision was made...I've ordered the FX200. Now the wait....

Larry, it's really hard to choose wrong with the bridge cameras everyone has mentioned. I think you will really enjoy the FX200. When you get it, do post some images and let us know how it performs for you. My apologies for addressing you as "Grampy" in my initial post--I can appreciate that your granddaughter has exclusive rights on that name!

I really like the Panasonic FZ200 over the SX50, because frankly the SX50 EVF is very lacking and unnatural to my eye.

No problem about the name. I threw it in there when I registered because the system wouldn't accept my real name and I couldn't think of anything else at the time.

The resolution of the EVF was high on my list.
