Nikon D2HS - anybody use(d) one - thoughts & opinions?

Hi,

I am considering buying a used D2HS for action/bird photography. Does anyone here have good feelings about this camera? I know it is older and has a 4mp sensor - I have heard good things about its high speed capture/focus.

Would love to hear your thoughts and see some pics you may have taken with it!

Thank you.

Old is a good word.
But it does have a very good sensor and yields wonderful colors. I have a local pro livestock photographer who uses the D2Hs with a D200 as a backup. The shutter count on his is over 1 million, and it looks it. There is more gaffers tape on that body than Nikon grip material by far! Its a beast of a camera and literally bulletproof if you can live with the smaller files. They actually print nicely at 16x24, I have printed several of his shots as sale posters with no issues at all. Plus you can pick them up for a song these days!

I had one and loved it. The only reason that I sold it on ebay is because I bought a D2xs. I would recommend that you move up to that camera just because of the sensor size. A used D2x on ebay is about the max I can afford due to being old and on Social Security. That was the only reason I move to the D2x was the increased pixel count.

Thanks for the info, it confirms what I have heard. I have just pulled the trigger on one from KEH - tried singing a song for it but they weren't interested. They wanted $429 for one in excellent condition. I have 14 days to try it so we will see.

Thanks for your positive reply! Sensor wise, one of my all time favorite pics came from a Nikon coolpix 900 built in 1998! So I don't think the smaller size sensor will be a huge issue. I have just bought one on KEH. Going to give it a try for a bit, if necessary I can return it within 14 days. I live 20 minutes away from them. Wish me luck!

Aggh, had to return it - I should have known better. Newer cameras simply outdo it in so many ways.

Definitely hard to go back to the farm once you have seen gay Paree!
