I am an old still photographer (1948 till 1953) (WWII veteran before that)
who has just purchased a digital camera. I would love to know its
attributes but do not know who to ask or where to go .

Can someone direct me where to go to get needed help?.

I would ask my grandchildren. They seem to know about all the "NEW STUFF"

You're in a good place for problem solving. One thing most would recommend is, "read your manual, practice, then read your manual again, and again. There are no stupid questions, just stupid answers.

OK Silvio, what did you buy, and why did you buy it?

The first thing to do, is read the manual that came with the camera. Then if you need additional advise, there are many members here that can answer most of your questions. We look forward to seeing your photos. :)

Many, ok most, times the manuals really suck for a first time user. Depending on what camera you bought, there are often second party books specific to the camera. There are also "digital books for Dummies" books that inspire of the title are really good the basics.

Good luck and as others have asked, what camera did you buy? You may get some more direct help.

Hey Silvioss - Welcome to the Hog! You're at a really good place to get your questions answered. Can you tell us what kind of camera you got? Our members have a wide range of equipment from simple point-and-shoots to professional grade DSLR's. Chances are good someone else has what you just bought and can answer any specific questions you have.

If you haven't found it yet, most camera companies do not send the full manual on paper form in the box with the camera. It is usually on the CD disk that came with the camera as a PDF file - you will need to read it on your computer.

Welcome to UHH and thank you for your service. Search "youtube" for your specific camera. There are tons and tons of good videos available. Adroama and B&H have great video tutorials. Then you have UHH. You can run a search for specific topics or ask here. Have fun.

I thought it was a Nikon but it turns out to be a Sony and has
7X Optical Zoom (Written on it) and 8.0 Megapixels. I purchased it to take with me to Antarctica which I did. . I have had it for quite some time now. It has a Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar Lens Z-2.8/7.1-51(and then in Red lettering) it has T* (Sorry if I sound stupid)

As a quick response I would start shooing in manual to get the "feel" of the camera and because the lens openings, speed asa will give you a number set that is familiar - You could shoot the same object with different settings to test or in auto ther numbers are chosen for you - It sure is graeat not to have to worry about reloading film or wating to get bck from the darkroom/ or processing plant just one of the good differences in digital - BTW that is a very good camera - Good luck with and have fun --

Welcome, fellow Hogger! Most of us are nice people and most of the answers to questions and advice are very helpful! I've found the only way to learn is to read the manual, take notes, go out shooting pics, repeat, repeat, repeat! Again, welcome & enjoy!
