Leaving On A Jet Plane.....
Was next to the Albany, NY airport a few weeks ago and just had time to grab this shot. It is un-processed even though I know it needs tweaking. The sun angle is obviously not great. I posted it like this because I would like comments on image quality. I was using a lens I haven't had much chance to use yet and I would like some opinions on how it performed. I have my opinion but would appreciate yours. Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM at 300mm on a 70D. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated and if anyone wants to pp it so that I can compare my results I would enjoy that. Thanks.
Stealth airline from Wolf Road :o).

Is that cropped at all? It's amazingly sharp, considering the speed and distance.

Nope. Just as shot. Handheld, though I was leaning against my truck to steady myself as much as possible.

Thanks. The end of Sicker Rd. Had to go to D&W Diesel on that road, which is always a good excuse to try to get a few shots. The plane was about over the Albany Co jail when I shot this.

Interesting. I never would have thought of that. Now you have me wondering how it would look silhouetted but in b&w.
Hello,
What would you estimate the distance at which this photo was taken? Nice shot. As you know I'm interested in this Lens.

I can't say for sure, but based on where I was standing I would estimate that I was at least a half mile horizontally and the plane was probably 700-1000 ft in the air. Do a Google map search for Albany International Airport in Albany, NY. Sicker Rd, on the NW side of the airport deadends at the airport fence. That's where I was. The plane was departing to the west and was about over the end of the East-West runway or a bit beyond. Download and bring the photo up to full size and you can see the First Officer in the cockpit. Considering that the gear is fully up and the plane is in a well established climb it may well be further away then I think. This 2nd photo was taken with the plane at an even greater distance.
