A Snowy Owl landed on my roof this afternoon and stayed for 3 1/2 hours and about 350 shots. It was being harassed by crows most of the time it was there.
The eyes in the 3rd shot, really nice.
I've never seen one in the middle of the day. (Actually, I haven't seen one for 55 years)
With global warming etc, I wonder why they aren't migrating northward?

I read an Audubon feature, I believe it was, that said snowy owls irrupt depending on their food source - some type of rodent that's usually abundant way up north, IIRC. When that food source isn't abundant in their normal geographic range, the snowies head south looking for other food sources (or follow that source south, not north - guess they can read a temperature gauge, too ;)).

Great eye in no 3, you were very lucky to have him stay that long and be able to get great pictures.

We were down at west end, Jones Beach Thanksgiving weekend and saw two beautiful ones from afar..
