SX50- another example of available light in a theater setting

This set of images is similar to other programs I have photographed in a theater setting. I regret that the stage lighting was not more evenly distributed as the center parts of the singing group are darker. I used ISO 800 for most of the shots and a shutter speed of 1/30 - 1/80 second depending on the focal length used and lighting. Some of the soloists were in a brighter part of the stage which required the faster shutter speed. The image of the sound technical was shot at ISO 3200 as he was in very low light. Incandescent white balance, hand-held, Image Stabilization was ON. You can get an idea of where the shots were taken from my position in the balcony on the wide-angle view. I post sets like this to encourage other SX50 shooters to use their cameras in similar settings. Comments/questions are always welcomed.

Thanks for posting! I just bought a SX50 but have not tried it in conditions of such low light.

Darn you, Lee. I've been mulling over the decision to buy either a SX50 or Lumix FZ200 and leaning toward the FZ. However, your excellent theater setting series has me re-considering. I know you indicated you were in the balcony, but about how far was that?

I am leaning toward the FZ200 too. It has less reach, but a constant 2.8 aperture

It's frustrating. Having read multiple reviews and opinions (everyone having their own), I think, in the long haul, the FZ200 will be more than satisfactory. It's just the long SX50 lens would be awesome for my trip to Alaska next year.

I too thank you for posting these Lee. I have had my SX50 for about 10 days and am so happy with it. These shots do encourage me to pursue low-light opportunities. I'll be watching for your future posts. Keep them coming!

Thanks for your note. I'll have to measure it for accuracy but I would guess about 300 feet.

Thanks, Lee, no need to measure. Your guesstimate is good enough.

Truly remarkable. I can only wish I had an sx50 right now. I do have an sx40 and it is still very good. Later, I will post some stage pictures taken with the sx40.

The sx50 is priced lower and lower and the only thing stopping me now, well 2 things, the sx40 is still good and Canon will come out with an upgrade of the sx50 2 days after I buy it.

That is what happened when I bought an sx 150 (also good), the sx40 came along and right after I bought it the sx50 comes out. So I wait and say thank you for posting your beautiful pictures.
