Well, I work in the movies, in TV, in Internet video, in corporate video, and generally do not bother to pull out any of my small, medium, or large format cameras UNLESS I get paid to do it. I rent lighting and grip equipment to other companies.

I also get paid to do pre-press and design work like an ad agency.

I've had an Academy Award nomination, won a few film festivals, and so forth with my work. My clients pay for my travel to foreign countries.

Now it's back to editing HD.

I guess I've been a pro for several decades.

From a $ point of view, yes I consider myself a professional. I supplement my retirement income with my photo sales (mid five figures).

From a photographic knowledge viewpoint, In my opinion I am an advanced amateur at best. (i.e., I have little to no knowledge of studio technique - nor any interest in learning any).
