Driver stupidity is everywhere. I-75 through most of Atlanta has HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) far left lanes, 24/7, for cars with 2 or more people. The other day my wife and I were in one, going about 62 in a 55 zone, when a huge pickup truck zoomed up behind us, tailgated for a while, then flashed the headlamps for us to get out of the way. What the h***? After a mile or two and many flashes, he/she roared past on the right.

And tailgaters! Last night I was in one of the middle lanes when a semi ran so close that I could almost read the maker's medallion. This with empty lanes right and left. An attempt at intimidation? Or merely stupidity?

Texas has this virus also. I call it the "Me First Plague" Love those who pass by exceeding speed limit on double yellow line curve & hill just to turn off a half mile ahead. We also are contaminated by the "Only One" syndrome
Busy 4 lane city Hwy Person has turned parsley into parking lot after slowing to 3 MPH from 40 and stops still sticking into Hwy looks for parking spot-(Well I am the "Only One" here or that is important.) Another side of the "Me First" is the "You'll stop" effect those who know you will stop, Tires complaining loudly, because they must be first pulled in front of me from the parking lot.
I give age old sign language and I'm accused of "Road Rage" this does have a effect on children - my 4 year old granddaughter has a very colorful vocabulary.

What about those who stay in the left lane all day long ? Supposedly in Georgia there is a law on the desk to be signed requesting to stay off the left lane, except to pass or emergency and heavy traffic . I would like to see this one enforced big time !!!

In So Flo, if a turn signal is on all you know for sure is that the bulb is NOT burned out ...

Years ago we had that law here in Pa. But they took it off the books. For a reason no one knows. I guess it kept the cops to busy.

All they have to do is give a stiff fine like 200 - 300 $ and they will understand .

Don't even get me started on bicyclists. My feeling is if they want to share the road, they should have to obey the rules of the road. For the most part, the bicyclists I have seen on major streets are doing what they should. But on the side streets, most of them are blowing through stop signs--a dangerous habit if it is only a two-way stop.

Around Hemet there is a guy who zips around in one of those recumbent bikes with a hand crank. Turning corners with little regard to who is coming. I've had to slam on the brakes a couple of times due to his sudden left turns. No problem if I am driving the Insight. But if I am in the Sienna.....

As a cyclist of over 30 years, I can tell you that you're absolutely correct -- they must obey the rules of the road if they are riding in traffic. If they are not, please call the police and report them. They're not doing the rest of us cyclists any good by getting the automotive public pissed off at us.

I've noticed a certain behavior in California drivers. I started seeing this years ago.

It goes something like this: You have to make a left turn. There is no arrow at the intersection or you are turning into a parking lot. There is a car coming, but his/her distance from you is enough that your left turn will have absolutely no impact on them.

Yet as soon as you activate your turn signal you see the car lurch forward as the driver floors it. And they always seem to have that "Not on my watch!" look on their faces.

What is that?

If the driver--despite their aversion to me making my turn before they pass--is still a safe distance away, I'll make the turn and wave(or stick out my tongue) as I turn.

A few months ago, I bought a certified pre-owned Honda Insight for the wife. I had to get out of my bed(health issues once more) and drive to her location, change her ruined tire with the temporary tire and drive the car to a local Walmart to buy a new one.

Why?

Because she was turning in the parking lot and someone decided that she wasn't going to make the turn and floored it. Rather than getting in an accident with the very large pickup, she got out of the way as fast as she could, running into a concrete divider, damaging part of the body and destroying the tire.

Nothing like making payments on a damaged car. The damage minimal, just a scrape that most won't notice--but I know it's there.

We have a guy that lives near us. If you get to a four-way stop intersection before him and need to make a left turn(using your turn signal of course), he waits patiently until you are at the center of the turn. He then floors it, forcing you to take whatever steps you have to to get out of his way. He's gotten me three of four times and I think he may have gotten the wife once.

What is wrong with these people?

I've driven all over the US including a lot in NYC, Washington DC, and Philly. The city I hate to drive in most is Boston! It is the only city that has this one particular move drivers make that is totally frustrating: When stopped at a red light and the light turns green, there is a mad dash for the center of the intersection. Whichever line of traffic gets there first dictates what happens next. If the opposing line of traffic wants to turn left in front of the line wanting to go straight, then one car after another bumper to bumper turns left when the right-away should have gone to the line of traffic wanting to go straight. This often results in only one or two cars that are going straight getting though the intersection. I've been stuck at one light for six or seven cycles due to this action. The first time it happened I just figured it was the way that intersection was flowing that day but when it happened several times it became clear that was a local way of driving!

Another - Making a right turn on Red - legal in all (#) of states depending on who you talk to. But rarely get to, 1st in line wants to go straight. Talk about a go green issue (Environment fumes - Resources Oil) or sets till light turns green then turns.

What do you think?
All major roads (those that are 4 lane) should be 5 lane -- Starting on the right lane (Right turn "only" and can only be in this lane for turning right within the next block (Max distance 1/4 mile), Left lane for going straight thru. Center lane for left turns- just as we now have, anyone protruding into the thru lane and causing traffic to stop or be impeded a ticket can be issued.

If people are passing on the right, then you're either going too slow, or you're in the wrong lane. Right lane-slow, middle lane-faster, left lane-fastest. It's not a hard concept.

This kind of behavior seems to be happening in Indiana a lot only on Fridays. I can't explain that either. Be very defensive!!

Seems you made a good case for a dash camera. I've Have had mine on there for over year now, I think once they see that on the dash (I don't know how they do) but they seem to mind the rules of the road. Well perhaps driving with a neck brace on dash instead or that plastic Jesus has helped to. .

Apparently, 90% of drivers are of below average intelligence. This story reminds me of one of my pet peeves: a car far in the distance in a parking lot on the right is perched perpendicular to the road, seemingly waiting to pull out, which they could do right away, with no problem. They wait.. and wait.. and then, when you are close enough to have to brake for them or crash into them, they pull out in front of you.
