Snowy Owls, in large numbers, have come South from the North this Winter looking for food. They perch on poles, posts, roof tops, and large trees during the day time searching parking lots, airport runways, and open fields often adjacent to highways. Sadly, some have been hit by vehicles.
Luck was with us. We found one atop a light standard, in a park-and-ride lot, along side a four-lane highway.
We got to about 75 feet away and were able to shoot up. Getting closer would likely have harassed the bird. They are under considerable stress.
They are gorgeous. Bird authorities say the Snowy is the largest of all the owls.

Great shots Pierre, a very beautiful owl. Thanks so much for sharing. A few have been seen and recorded in Florida this winter

Super shots of this beautiful bird, Pierre. I have a feeling I won't be seeing a Snowy Owl here. :-)

Beautiful set, Pierre. I've never seen one of these guys and really appreciate your posting them.

Thanks Jimjay.
I saw one about 25 years ago from a long way off and up until this week, that was it.
