After Mack Camera replace my Nikon D600 (Thank You again) with a D610 I hope all you hogs that have a D600 return it back to Nikon for the replacement shutter issue, then sell it or trade it and go Cannon or any other brand, never mind clean and replace the shutter, Nikon knows that is is a major problem, who in the world going to buy a D600 at a good fair place knowing that in the future this oil spots will appear again, Nikon should of replace all D600 with a D610 free of charge. They have lost my confidence as a leader in world of Photography

But now that they replaced it, how well do you like the 610? I was thinking about purchasing the Nikon 610.

So far it about the same as my D600 BUT it's a better feeling knowing that this camera has no major issue as the D600, I can only say this a good camera with lots of features and 24 MP. I would give it a shot again. Good shooting.

Thanks! I think I'm going to rent one before I purchase.

But if Nikon is replacing the D600 shutter with a 610 unit, the problem should be taken care of. For all the heat that Nikon has taken over this thing, I think they are doing the right thing by replacing every D600 shutter that is sent to them. Mine is at there facility at this moment.

I hope they replace it and just not clean it,they told me 3 times at Nikon it was but the tech.at Mack camera examined it before they returned it back to me and it found out all they did was to clean it.
At Nikon they said if the shutter was good and not one that was from a certain vendor it would just clean it. but each time a service report would come back it stated replace shutter and each time when it was check I had spots on my image, it was a frustation experience but at last they gave me a replacement D610. amen.

I'm sorry to hear that you had so much trouble with the D600. I really love mine, and although the spots were not a big issue, they were definitely there. Seemed more like dust than oil since the blower would at least move them. And then Nikon came out with the replacement program. I am inserting the pertinent portion of the email. There was more to it, but this is the meat which explains that they will clean the camera and actually REPLACE the shutter:

"Nikon has resolved this by making available to you (even if Nikon’s product warranty has expired) this customer-service measure, which includes the inspection, cleaning and replacement of the shutter assembly and related parts of your camera, FREE OF CHARGE as well as the cost of shipping your D600 camera to Nikon and its return to you. Once again, please understand that regardless of this service, your D600 camera as is the case with all D-SLR cameras, will continue to require normal periodic sensor cleanings."

I think Nikon is doing a stand-up job on this issue.

I have had my Nikon D600 for 18 months now. Have never had any problem with the shutter, or with oil or extra amounts of dust on the sensor. Last week I got the recall notice from Nikon and today I got the camera back from them all fixed, but it was not giving me a problem. I wish the recalls I have had with my automobiles would have gone this good.
