[quote=Taylor103]I'm looking to upgrade from a Canon SX40HS to an EOS and I am seeing the new 70D being talked about pretty much everywhere.
I am not interested in shooting video and that seems to be the most hearolded aspect of the camera.
I'm fairly new to the actual business side of this, and need a better camera to do the job.
I do mostly lifestyle photos now, but have been asked to do weddings and infants lately, therefore, need a better camera.
Anyone have any advice?
The Canon 60D is $599 at Amazon. Look at refurbished too. Cameta.com gives 1 year warranty. Do a search on this forum on refurbs. You will find lots of information. Good luck.

Just ignore the specs on video and look for a camera body that has what you like for shooting stills. The reason I say to ignore the video aspects is because all the camera manufacturers are including video capability 99% of their camera lineup. I think Canons only DSLR that doesn't do video is the T3 (I could be wrong)
why not just wait a few weeks and check out the SX60 which should improve on your SX40?
I am in fact waiting for the release of the 70D with the intention of upgrading to it from my current T3i. One of the main reasons I am attracted to it is apparently a non issue for you - the video. I like the fact that the camera auto focuses during video filming as opposed to the T3i which does not. After living with the T3i, I realize how convenient a touch screen would be - I do not use a cover of my LCD screen which I find to be overwhelmingly unnecessary. I'm also attracted to a couple of the other features including the upgraded focusing of the camera. I wish it would come out today!

The 70D is a revolutionary camera because of its better video capabilities. It will also have better focusing abilities and low light abilities than previous sub-professional cameras, therefore it is a terrific value, as it could get by with professional still jobs, (Even recently, I have seen much worse in the hands of photographers shooting at cruises, reunions, etc.) as well as paid video gigs.
On the other hand, if you are willing to wait no more than one year, Canon will almost certainly release the successor to the 7D, which will have greater speed, more of the focusing and low light capabilities of the 1DX, and almost certainly the same video performance.
I am a Canon shooter - but I recommend SONY A65 or A77. Stabilization built into the camera NOT lenses - legacy minolta lenses image stabilized, in camera HDR and in camera sweep panorama, 12 FPS ! - with no mirror vibration, some exclusive ZEISS lenses available.
It has been Years since my college photography classes to which I think I have forgotten SO much because I have not been able to put the little knowledge I thought I had into practice. So with all that being said, will someone explain what a full frame camera and its benefits?
I forgot to mention I just purchased the Canon 70D and so far I am enjoying the features. Still learning the basic settings and field testing. I will post questions as they arise. So thank you for your help in advance cause I know I will need lots of input.
