The price of grey market cameras is sometimes lower. Be very careful about where you purchase a camera online. Stay away from AJRichies, if they even still exist. You could end up paying for a USA version, e.g., with WiFi and GPS and get a grey market version with none of the above.
Oviedo has a point in saying that cameras seldom require servicing. I have had many cameras, Canon, Nikon and Olympus, which have never needed servicing.
For peace of mind, shop B&H, Adorama or local dealer.

Nikon will not touch gray market equipment, even if you offer to pay.
What about used equipment? All that stuff on eBay and KEH or even Adorama and B&H? All the stuff in the past 20 years has tons of electronics that is bound to fail at some point.
Personally, I dislike U.S. retailers offering grey market imports for sale.
Years ago I purchased a nikon 80 200 2.8 lens that was grey market but B and H offered a Mack 7 year warranty. I ended up using the warranty. No problems at all. I still have the lens but think that in the event I want to sell it, I may have a problem getting top dollar. I was told never to purchase a grey market camera body. Any purchases I make now will have the USA warranty with it.

I'm curious, Adorama and B&H offer 12 month warranties on gray market equipment and fully explain what gray market items are and why they sell for less, usually. Both of these companies enjoy great reputations and great service. I have seen many postings recommending refurbished equipment and suggesting these two companies. I cannot recall anyone suggesting gray market items. Why?
