I went to Alaska for the first time in June to celebrate my 50th birthday. I took a 7-day tour with Celebrity (Solstice). I wish I could have gone on several more tours than I did, but then there was a budget to consider. Here are some of my favorites. I probably have dozens more that I could have chosen out of well over 1k pics.

Flew to Seattle from St. Louis - first time here in 46 yrs. I wasn't quick enough to catch any flying fish (on camera)

After 9 cruises and 5 'land cruises' to the Great Land, I have so many wonderful photos of her scenery and wildlife that I just don't know where to start. Here are some of my favorites.

after reading about people asking what to bring on a trip to Alaska I was surprised how many members have come to Alaska.
I have lived in Alaska for many years, but I haven't done the tours that many visitors do. I was wondering if I am missing something. so show me where your tours have taken you on your trips. if you can please tell where the photo was taken incase I recognize it, or someone wants to go there on there next trip to Alaska.

We loved our Alaska cruise!

Here is one that you won't see among many tourist's shots. When in Alaska, I hadn't planned to watch surf boarders.

The Turnagain Arm of Cook's Inlet near Anchorage is one of two places in North America where you can see sizable "Bore Tides". (The other is in Nova Scotia.) A Bore Tide is caused by an extreme change from low to high tide in a waterway off of the ocean that gets narrower as it goes inland. The incoming rising tide comes in as a wave rolling over the outgoing lowering tide. Is I recall, when these pictures were taken, (July 22,2013), the change was around 38 feet and caused a Bore Tide wave over three feet high.

Surf boarders ride the outgoing tide to meet and ride the incoming wave.

Sorry about the quality of these shots. I pulled them from a mp3 video shot with a Canon sx30is with very strong back lighting. I can only say they are better than nothing.
