There is, I believe, in the Kremlin, a map of the old Soviet Union showing all the breakaway Republics from the fall of the Iron Curtain. Putin was KGB, Second Directorate - Intelligence. Do you think he will stop short of forced reunification?

Make a suggestion rather than just bash the President and the Administration. What could you do?

Not sure you are asking me but since you posed the question: What do you want the president to do? What I want him to do is to go away, far away and quickly. I am sure there is a well paying community organizer job somewhere in Russia or China. Oh, and stay away please.

Yes, Obama said in his presser that Biden has been on the phone with the Russians.... He did not mention that he was in communication with Putin or the Russian ambassador or anyone else for that matter, 45 minutes later he was across town at a Happy Hour.

Wasn't he at an awards banquet the night before Osama Bin Ladin was Killed? Don't read too much into his movements.

I guess you all have been to war.

Do you really want to invade Russia over the Ukraine?

The Ukraine has been a part of Russia since the Czars. The Ukrainians speak Russian.

The Ukraine is within the Russian sphere of influence. Ever notice how the roads, rails and all other means of transportation run north south and few east west? Wonder why?

If this is such a threat and to whom why aren't the Europeans who are right there making a stink about it?

I find that most chicken hawks like war but just don't like to fight in one, send a son or daughter off to one, pay for one, or provide for the troops when they come home all messed up!

Let me get this straight, Russia invades the Ukraine and Obama has Biden make a few calls to a bellman at some Russian hotel to express his outrage as he Obama goes out to toast the democrat party at a "Happy Hour"!

Why doesn't Obama call Putin himself? Simple, because Putin knows that Obama has no nalgas, Putin is carrying Obama's nalgas around in his pocket.

I just finished a tom Clancy book about this kinda thing...

The White House just "floated" the suggestion that they may have to consider not attending the upcoming G8 summit (really our only true leverage in the matter). Hard to judge at the moment, but this could give Putin some pause if the UK, Germany, France, and Italy were to voice agreement. (I'd suspect that comments will follow in the next week, maybe by White House press secretary, that "unless the current situation improves, the US will be forced to open discussions with our European allies concerning economic sanctions against Russia." ). Putin needs to maintain a working economic relationship with the G8. He is going to have to decide if risking that for the opportunity to try to destabilize the Ukraine in order to grab up a few territories is worth it.

I think we all know that Putin considers the URSS disintegration as the political mistake of the century. Ukraine is vital to put Russia back as a potentially heavy weight in the world wide picture. Now: 50% of Ukraine favor to became one country with Russia plus the 100% of the Russian off course. With this picture, do you think that Putin will let this unique opportunity
go without making his best to materialize his dream? Be sure he doesn't give a damn about what USA or the rest of the world may think or say about the situation.
He will go ahead and his problem will be to keep that 25% opposition in the future Russia-Ukraine nation, silent and quiet. If possible I am sure he will try to make them happy also.....

Right you are, don't read too much into his movements. Why? Because he has NO idea what he is doing. That sniveling community organizer fool left the White House after his statement on Russia/Ukraine yesterday. Where did he go? He went to a democrat political rally and declared that happy hour is on. The only nice thing about the boy wonder obama is that he is such an incompetent fool he continuously provides great material. All by himself he screws up everything he touches, including, sadly, this country.

The Ukrainians speak the Ukraine language, not Russian. The Russian occupiers, particularly in the port areas are the ones who speak Russian.

Ukraine has been part of Lithuania, Poland, Austria, Hungary and Crimea over the past hundreds of years. It was not part of Tsarist Russia, and in fact wasn't unified under Russia until 1919 - a year after the assassination of Nicholas, the last of the Tsars.

I agree with your current sentiments about war and the Ukraine, but your history sounds sketchy at best.

As usual you are just rambling on. I don't think anyone here has shown a desire for war. Why should we. Only a fool wishes for war. Sometimes it's inevitable but I don't the U.S. is going to engage Russia over the issues in Ukraine. Economic sanctions maybe but that would have little effect and it would be a slow process. The best solution would be to let a sovereign Ukraine sort out their own affairs. It's in Russia's best interest for Ukraine to have a stable government whether it's their preferred leader or not. Economics and trade with other nations will eventually decide the right path. Putin and others surely know that the former USSR is not coming back in the form it was before. Unlike Obama, Putin is not an idiot.

Chien fou,

I personally would not have given mixed signals to all world leaders about our (The United States of America's), intentions. Everyone now knows that we have a "paper tiger" for a so called leader. That would have precluded the present actions.

Second, I would be having a personal dialog with my Russian Counterpart concerning his intentions. I know that the mind set of President Putin is to restore the former Russian "Empire" to its former glory. He has made no effort to hide it either. You don't want to "rub his nose" in an embarrassing situation on the world stage either. President Putin is NOT Mr. Obama. If pushed too far, he will react like a cornered Tiger and his hand will be forced to aggressive action. It will be easy for him to justify aggressive military action in order to "Protect" his military personnel, ships and support facilities at the Black Sea port in Ukraine.

Just think of what we would do if Cuba became as politically unstable as Ukraine? a Real U.S. President would have have Marine, Force Recon, Army Special Forces and Navy Seal teams on the ground covertly at Guantanamo base and heavy support resources would be not far offshore. Again, to protect our people, the same as President Putin is doing.

He is doing everything according to Hoyle, even as far as getting formal approval of the Russian Parliament for military action. Something our HNIC doesn't believe in doing. It's below his arrogant half-breed ass to do that. He wasn't brought up that way by his Socialist/Communist mentors. President was well "groomed" for his role ass a World Leader all the way back to his KGB officer days. He (President Putin) is a man of direct action whereas Mr. Obama is un-trained, incompetent and lacks even rudimentary leadership skills/abilities.

Getting back to what would I do. It's simple, I wouldn't have gotten my dumb ass into this situation in the first place!!

Is that specific enough for your liberal ass??????

Well don't sugar coat it. Tell us how you really feel. Actually the Black Sea Fleet is in Crimea and the Russians have full possession of that so called independent region. As far as everything you said about Obama you are correct IMHO. Of course you'll be labeled a racist for your wording but when you get down to it everyone is a racist as far as the term is thrown around these days.

I take that as an acceptance of my opinions.

It takes a big man to say what you just did and I applaud you for it.

If Mr. Obama, you'll notice I never label him as President, had gone into the Marine Corps Officer program, he would be a Leader of men. Oops, let me rephrase that, he would be a leader of Marines (Officer of Marines).
My DI's would run my ass through the ringer for such a slip of the tongue.

That's the difference between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was trained to be a leader of men!

Old Sarge,

You are so right. We (The U. S. A.), have stuck our noses in way too many places that it doesn't belong and that's why we are so hated.

We try to force our moral values (that's an oxymoron), on the rest of the World when we don't even follow our own "Rules".

Ukraine has always been an integral part of Czarist Russia and we have no business getting involved in any disruption of any re-unification attempts.

I'm glad that I'm not a young Marine Officer today because I don't know how I'd feel about leading my men in operations in that area. It would be a very bloody battle that absolutely no one would win a clear, clean victory.

I deeply feel for any parents/grandparents of any current service personnel, because I wouldn't want my son or daughter in active duty now. Back in the 60's & 70's we knew our enemies, they were clearly defined but now, almost the entire World wants to stick the "Green Weenie" up our butts DRY!

We're not going to war and the EU is going to do absolutely nothing... Our president would do well to not make public threats that he has no ability to back up.... seems that he has a penchant for doing this. Russia will do as Putin pleases, and the US will do nothing which is pretty much inline with the will of the American people... Obama needs to stop talking smack though, it is leading to an ever weakening opinion of the US in the world and is very destabilizing in regards to our relationships with our allies who depend on us to back up our president's words... So far Obama has given away the house, he has lifted the sanctions on Iran but they clearly will still get their bomb, he drew red lines in Syria with invisible ink.... they are now flipping him the bird as they make no effort to honor the deadlines.... Saudi Arabia, Israel, Turkey, and other allies in the area are quickly realizing that the US has no will to stand with them in any fight as the president has also given Iraq to Al Queda and will soon be doing the same with Afghanistan, why does he broadcast his weaknesses long before he has to such as the total withdrawl from Afghanistan and the fact that he is not preparing contingencies for the Ukraine.... Oh! Yeah, it plays well with his base.... Sorry I asked.

First let Europe know the United States will supply all the natural gas in the form of liquid natural gas they can use (we have the capability to both produce and transport) and western Europe can stop buying natural gas from Russia. Big financial squeeze on Russia as the majority of their foreign trade is in natural gas and oil.

Get our oil reserves from all sources going on the open market driving down prices. Again squeezing Russia because they need oil above $80.00 a barrel to be competitive. If their capital begins to dry up they will have a hard time buying food which they have proven year over year they cannot produce in quantities to feed the population.

Restart building the missile shield Poland and the Czech Republic want and Russia is dead set against. It will force Russia to expend lots of money to try and build something that is capable of penetrating the shield.

Certainly there are other things but I doubt if we will do anything other than shake a finger and draw another line.

Maybe one of our leaders will go to Russia and come back with a piece of paper he/she can wave and declare "Peace in our time."
