Thanks AJE. I see bird photos here where the feather detail is so fine... gives me something to shoot for (no pun intended)
:-)
How far away was the eagle when you took his picture?

About 75' away. He was high in a tree growing out of a steep embankment and I was on a deck at the top of the cliff... so we were pretty much at the same level.
Thanks for looking!
Thank you foehner. I think that this may be my first camera in years. The SX50. Can it take a tripod for vertical was well as horizontal photos and is there some way to take the picture and reduce vibration. . .maybe remote control or something? Is it water proof?

Hi HappyDay -- There are lots of SX50 users in UHH. If you post these questions as a new topic you'll get a lot of friendly folks answering and offering suggestions and help. I'll give you my thoughts...
Tripod - Yes, the SX50 has a standard screw mount that works with the tripods I own. The tripod usually has levers/controls that let you turn the camera to horizontal/vertical positioning.
Vibration - The SX50 has "image stabilization" which reduces the shakes. It does a very good job and I take lots of hand-held photos at full optical zoom. (It is generally recommended to turn off the image stabilization when you use a tripod)
Additional tricks to reduce vibration: (1) Use the timer on the camera that delays the photo N seconds after you press the shutter button. (2) Add a remote control... I think I paid aboutu $20 for one.
Water proof - Nope.
I'm going to include the original eagle photo here, so you can see what the SX50 actually saw hand held at 75' with full zoom. I used Paint Shop to crop the photo, clone out some branches and do a bit of basic enhancements.
Definitely good enough to print and carry in your wallet,
foehner...or to enlarge and hang on your wall!
I really like the shot. Again I'm impressed with the SX50.

Thanks Cappy. Still honing my skills with the SX50... lots of room for improvement.

I have 3 Canon cameras including the 5Diii & a 60D & the powershot D20 underwater. Will replace the 60D when the 7D replacement comes out. But I'm considering the SX50 as a travel camera for when we go to Aruba for 3 weeks each & Europe for a few weeks each year.

The bridge cameras are getting a lot of recommendations as a travel camera. I think the SX50 would be a good choice. I've used my SX50 (and SX30) for travel and am very happy with the results.
I don't own a dSLR right now, but expect to get one again (someday) for special shoots. But, a camera like the SX50 will still be the everyday and travel camera.
Aruba and Europe... that is excellent traveling!
