I just ordered a manfrotto 681 B with a 234RC head for $109.00 at Amazon. So I am happy! Thank you all for your suggestions & help, very much appreciated!

After you get it, you may want to rig a neckstrap that goes to the camera, lens, or monopod - for insurance puposes or hands free operation - with a quick release feature.

Oh I would love one but I got the feeling that most people here prefer a tripod. I was looking at the Benro A38FBS2 monopod.I love the idea that it has legs,do you know anything about this one?

My wife uses a monopod. They collapse and are very light. The cost are from $25 to $200. When crashing through the woods, you have no time for a tripod set up. Don't worry about how many time anyone has asked the question. Continue until you have the info you are satisfied with.

I got a $200 list price Dolica at Costco recently for $80 when they were on sale. It does fine with my D5200 and a 55-300 Nikkor. It's graphite which means light weight. It has a ball head and a carry bag with a strap. This seems to meet your lightweight and cheap criteria. The legs have the screw type release rather than a latch, but they work fine. I've done some nice night city scapes using it.

Mine arrived today. Very light weight, but not sure it will support Sigma 150-500mm. I got it for travel with smaller lenses.

I am sorry I know this is a much discussed topic but I would like to ask what is tripod is best for a small lady with a bad shoulder.

I won't get into technicalities as to the best tripod, but I will tell you to get the best and biggest you can get Dwayne Johnson or John Cena to carry around for you.

Weigh your heaviest rig. Go to B&H Photo and look at tripods. On the left side you can select support load. Double your actual load and use that as a minimum. Actual weight & price come next. If the tripod isn't stable with your equipment, you have wasted your money.

This was one of the basics I was taught when starting to use a SLR and tripod - always keep the strap around my neck and when caring the camera with the tripod still mounted to firmly wrap the strap in my had in case the camera and tripod part ways.

You can do what I do when using a monopod or tripod, I keep my neck strap hooked to the camera and around my neck. More times than I can remember when having a senior moment I have kicked a tripod leg or let go of a monopod but the neck strap saved the day.
