I agree with you about wanting to get along but like you my Smith & Wesson is ready at all times. 8-)

Actually by 1940 Roosevelt was already rearming against the resistance of Republicans and Southern Democrats. But it is very different today. In the 1930's Hitler was intent upon building the most powerful army in the World. Today, even after reductions, we have the most powerful military in the World by a very wide margin. In fact the next 10 nations combined do not have the military strength we have. The challenge today is in maintaining public education, basic research and infrastructure. A democracy must have an informed and educated public. I don't think we have that today. A recent poll revealed that 1/2 of all Americans believe the Sun rotates around the Earth. Three quarters believe the Earth is less than 8 thousand years old. I won't continue it is too depressing.

Yep and these are the folks that voted for the politicians now currently in power - kinda makes you proud doesn't it.

RDH, you can forget about public education. It started going downhill in the 60's and the decline is getting steeper. You can thank teacher's unions and you beloved Democratic party for that. Public education is a joke.

It is very difficult to argue with you on that topic, assuming of course that you are a product of public schools. To be fair our public schools are both some of the best and some of the worst in the developed World.

I know I'm setting myself for plenty of insults as far as my intelligence or lack of but yes I attended public school. Back then the curriculum was different than today. The teachers were allowed to teach and didn't spend half their time dealing with bureaucracy and discipline could be dealt out without constant threats of lawsuits.

We could make the battleships and tanks and planes just as we did during WWII if we had the time but that is the problem now. During WWII we had two oceans protecting our country but that won't be the case in the technological world we live in now.

If we get into a BIG shooting war there will not be time to ramp up. Drawing down the military to pre WWII levels is a sign to those who don't like us that we are vulnerable.

Amen! Well stated!

I just keep thinking about what Carter did. He cut the hell out of the military budget also ( B-1 etc. ). This in turn forced the next president to massively increase the military budget to restore military strength ( Reagan ). To this day people are still saying he spent to much. Really- defeating Russia without firing a shot? What was that worth? NO loss of life in combat.

We all can pretty much figure out that the "savings" will pretty much go to pay for some part of bummer care that will not in any way reduce the budget 1 cent.

So, we have military members that have multiple deployments in a brief career that now will be "fired" to meet some imaginery budget limit(s)? How do we, as concerned citizens who ask the impossible of our military and their families, to accept their discharge and hope to find gainful employment? It's shameful that we don't express an outrage for those that accept government support without responsibility whereas we just say "tough luck" to the military that sacrifice so much for us.

Ever notice that no one ever brings up reducing welfare costs or congress salaries - gee I wonder why?

Me too. Congress salaries should be the FIRST thing considered. Then the welfare system needs an over-haul to weed out deadbeats.!!!

You are a moron. I mean this most sincerely. You're stuck with some idealized vision of this country that never really existed. Now be a good boy and change your depends, you're starting to stink as much as your ideas.

And who are you to judge eh? That old tired racist has called me every name in the book. Don't stick your nose into a long running argument when you don't understand the depravity of the target of my comments. I suggest you butt out now.

You never cease to amaze me. In a sick way I enjoy your regular show of stupidity here. Any insult you have received from me is well deserved. You've work hard for it. I really don't know where to begin. We obviously see the direction this country is going in through two different lenses. Your lens seemed to have had impact damage and can no longer focus correctly. I'm not sure it can be repaired. It might be best to start over with a new system. I think the lens and sensor (brain) are not worth the effort to attempt a repair. If you decide to replace the equipment please update from the crap that you got from Walmart. You know that big store where your mother dropped you on your head in the parking lot when you were younger. Have a great day. Hope to hear from you again soon. BTW for someone living in Miami you are one pasty looking Caucasian. Do you ever venture outdoors?
