And it made my grandson Carson feel like Michael Jordan for a day

Good for him! I love the concentration and the determined look in the first shot!

Sorry, but I think it's BS that "everyone gets a trophy." We have raised an entire generation of kids who think just because they show up they deserve a prize. The only way to really build self-esteem is through accomplishment. Praising a child for being great is totally different from praising what a child for something they did. A room full of participation trophies is a meaningless act that accomplishes nothing positive, in my opinion.

Yea, I agree with you on this. This permeates our society on all levels, such as grade creep, etc. When hearing parents discussing how their children were doing in school, NEVER have I ever heard a parent say my son/daughter is "average" or "just getting by". They're all getting "As" and "Bs". Everybody is outstanding, rocket scientists

Kinda like Garrison Keillor and Lake Wobegone, where "all the women are strong, the men good looking, and the children are all above average."

Perhaps if we knew more about Robert's grandson we might understand why the trophy is so important to him.

His t-shirt might have some possible clues, with these words: Methodist Sports Medicine, health, orthopedic

Carson has been a little slow in developing physically and goes to a special school for kindergarden. This was a very special day for him as I think you can see in his face. He is a very sensitive child and I could not have been more proud of him.

Thanks Robert. I hope Carson has a good life ahead of him. With a grandfather like you, he will have a better chance of making the most of his abilities. He will be your trophy, and you will be his greatest cheerleader.

I can't remember a time that I agreed with you until now. You are right on the spot today.

I agree! Its one thing to give everyone a trophy when they are 10 years old and up.....its a whole different story when they are very young and/or experiencing difficulities.

good for you Robert! and your grandson.

Brings to mind a speech course taken in college. Upon introducing ourselves, one student was unable to even give his name while in front of the class. A couple of us only received a B. According to the prof. there was little difference throughout the semester. The student having the difficulty speaking before the others finally received a B since he for his final was able to give his name and announce his major. By the way, he received the loudest applause.

But that's because they all eat "Powder Milk Biscuits". Which gives them all an edge over everyone else ...
