My name is Howard and I am retired. I am looking to upgrade to a DSl camera. I am trying to decide between a Nikon D3200 and a Cannon T3i. Both seem to have good features. I like the 24 megapixels on the Nikon but 18 Megapixels in the Cannon would work. Please give your opinion on these cameras and what would you choose. Thanks for any replies in advanced.

Welcome to the site Howard! Have you gone to the store and picked them up? Most of the time there will be one that just feels right when you hold it. Both are great cameras. I have shot Nikons for a long time.:) So I would say the Nikon.:):) But 18 or 24 megapixels will be hard to tell the difference.

Welcome to UHH! The best advice has already been given by Erv. There will be a difference in feel between the two cameras; otherwise, you probably won't ever miss the one you don't choose :)
Hey Howard, welcome to UHH. I'm also a Howard, and live about 50 miles south of you, in Palm Coast.
I would recommend going to Best Buy or another store that stocks the cameras, and see which one fits you the best, feels the best to you.
I shoot a Canon T3i and Canon EOS 6D, but that's my preference, you should shoot what works best for you.

Hello Howard and welcome to UHH.

My wife has the T3i. I have a 70D. As we get older a camera with a swivel screen (as with the Canons) can become very useful! You can more easily compose and shoot your photos while the camera is on the tripod or low to the ground without actually crawling on the ground or bending down. I am also learning to appreciate live-view shooting with an LCD screen, which I never thought I would, because I have developed a floater in my right eye which sometimes makes it difficult to focus through the viewfinder! In the medical field we call this "occupational therapy"!
Welcome Howard, I have a T4i and love it, have owned Nikons also, great cameras, can't go wrong with either.

Hi Howard. Welcome to the hog. In answer to your question, both the Canon and the Nikon are good cameras. If they both fit into your budget, then take them side by side and test them. The one that feels most comfortable is the one you should purchase. As Erv said, the difference between 18 and 24 mp is negligible so, rule out that aspect. I am a Canon user so I'm partial to Canon as you can tell.

Welcome to UHH Howard, glad you joined us. Have shot Nikon since 70's so I lean that way. You have to make the choice and use the camera you picked, not anyone else. Suggest you handle both cameras and see what feels better in your hands. You mat also be able to rent these cameras and take them for a test drive. Let us know which one you picked. Have fun and enjoy the forum.

Welcome aboard. I have a Canon T31 and you can get good buys since the T5i is now available. I also have a Canon SX50HS which I am using more and more. Great little camera for the price.
Was in Jacksonville last year on my way to St. Augustine
Nice day near the bus terminal (I got on the bus shown here, I think)
