My husband and some of the kiddos took a trip with some family to Little Sahara in Waynoka, OK this past May. He took this picture of my son with his iPhone. I am wandering if anyone out there can tell me how the two shadows were cast and why one is color and one is black and white?

How intriguing! I haven't got a clue-- and I'm wondering where the third flag went. I can't wait to see a plausible explanation, and I'd love to be able to replicate the effect.

Interesting. Another 'you couldn't do it if you tried'.

Yeah, I'm puzzled too.
How do you cast a shadow on the sky?

Was this taken through the glass of a car window?

If you look really close right above the bw photo, you can make out some kind of shape where the flag should be, but if you look closely at the two flags you can see plainly, they are waving at differently.

Yes the flags waving differently, the iphone "shutter" wasn't fast enough to freeze the subject. It's a double (well triple) exposure.

If the shutter wasn't fast enough there would be blur to the subject matter, showing movment. It almost seems like there were reflections on different elements of the lens.
