I don't think you'd get much of an argument from anyone here, except for the fact that not all of us live in a retail-dense area like southern California or Manhattan. In my case, the nearest "camera" store is about 45 minutes and a $4.00 bridge toll away, and it's a Ritz anyway. I'm sure that most people here would much rather walk into a LOCAL establishment, see/touch/smell the merch, and buy there, if they could. It's simply not a viable option for many people anymore. I have a Walmart about four miles away. There is almost NO retail presence anywhere around me except for second-hand thrift stores, tattoo parlors, and karate dojos. The city fathers up the road DENIED a permit for a SuperWalmart a few years ago, because it would have competed with the ONE grocery store in town that is owned and operated by a bigwig in the village. So we pay premium prices for almost all perishable goods, because the nearest alternative is over 20 miles away. Yeah, buying local is great. If you want a tattoo or an ear peircing.

The reason I was so sorry to see the photo stores leave was two fold ! Specifically was the close expertise of true help and supply of needs. The second was I worked part time for the professional who sold me the equipment for my photography trip through life. I continued with the same name until they closed. I could get equipment cheaper in New York even though I part timed at home - - - but I did not ! Helping home area was important to me but B & H treats me good now !
