Hello Everybody. Learning quite a bit and have only been on the website for a few months. Shoot the Nikon D90 as a hobby and carry it with me everywhere especially on my long distance motorcycle rides. Looking for a recommendation for a wireless Remote Shutter Release. Any suggestions?

Answered my own question! Checked the manual and the answer is the Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote. I'm on it.

That's the IR remote, not the best choice in bright sunlight. Wireless radio remotes are more dependable and give much greater distance, up to 300 yards in some cases.

I've had a few wireless remotes through the years, and the one that has never let me down is the Phottix Plato radio wireless.

Although I shoot Canon, this has been an outstanding investment. I bought at less than $50 years ago, no idea about pricing now.

The Vello Freewave RWN2 has worked well for me. I don't know what you need, but this is for Nikon and comes with with a DC-2 connection.

Go for the wireless radio remote, you won't regret it.

I am always amazed at how inexpensive the remotes are. I too vote for the radio remote as I is a lifetime investment as near as I can tell.

The only problem I have with the ML-L3 and the D90--both of which I use--is that you have to be in front of the camera for the remote to work. There is no rear sensor like on the D7100. I bought Vello Freewave radio-wave remote and it works great.

You can buy the IR remote from Nikon or get a third party remote. I have several, and they work as well as the Nikon unit.

Here's a tip, if you do get one. Drill a tiny hole in the battery tray and attach a lanyard, preferably one that snaps apart.

Don't strore your camera with remote attached, it will screw up your chord even if it doesn't appear to be cranking on it. I have the cello, worked great except for cord wear, and receiver battery wearing down. I now use a Nikon regular cord 99% of the time and remove the battery from Vello remote when storing. The battery it uses is expensive!

The final thing about the remote is knowing if it is working dilemma. You'll look like a nervous Nelly walking back and forth to see if it is. Because it felts on batteries, bring spares and a backup manual one...

Another remark: I went thru airport security and got pulled aside for a baggage check because I left the battery in the remote and it was emitting a signal that was picked up by the scanners. Duh, don't leave the battery in! Normally I do not but...not as bad as the folks who forgot they had a gun in their luggage, but just as smart and convenient!

Especially if it's hooked up to a remote. :D

You might want to check out the hahnel Giga T Pro II, which is a wireless remote control, and also is a programmable Interval Timer, if you plan on ever doing any time-lapse stuff.

With the Plato I mentioned above, that is not a problem. The remote in your hand has an led that flashes twice when it gets a confirmation signal from the receiving unit that it has activated the shutter.

This is really convenient when I've been far enough away not to hear the shutter. Although I haven't tried the max range of 320m in the specs.
