Does anyone know when Canon is coming out with the new 7D Mark II? I've been searching the net but haven't found out much. I'm looking to buy a 7d and know it's price will drop as soon as they announce the 7D MkII. Rumor is they are using prototype 7d MkII's at the winter Olympics.

Look for its introduction in April or May, with availability by September.

Do you think this pushes Nikon to produce a D400? Or do they see the D7100/D7200 as good enough to compete with the 70D/7DMkII?

The D400 has been a pipe dream in all kinds of rumor mills for almost 4 years now. Not coming, at least in DX format. Nikon has officially named the D7100 their "Flagship" DX sensored body, and the upcoming D7200 will be an upgrade to that model.

Canons 7D has been bested in very extensive and numerous aftermarket comparisons by several Nikon bodies, not the least of which is the D7000, and that was bettered by the D7100. Canon will have to come up with an entirely new body to best Nikons DX series of cameras, and the 7D MkII is little more than an update, not a revelation.

Thanks. Someone else had mentioned a Nikon ad with the "Flagship DX" label, but I had not seen it. The 4 year gap since the D300s doesn't surprise me, but the marketing label is a strong indication.

Any thoughts on what the D7200 upgrade might include?

Definitely the Expeed 4 processor as in the D5300 and D4s. A MUCH faster buffer allowing faster FPS shooting. Likely high-speed HD video, possible even 4K capability. Even more cross-type focus points. Maybe Wi-Fi and GPS built-in, probably several smaller upgrades as well.

JC, I would buy a used 7d. look for one at less than $700.
You can use it for a while then sell and trade up with possibly little or no loss, or shoot it for a while, it's still an excellent camera. I assume most of the upgrades will be to the focus system and non foto peripherals.
I think the price of the mkl will not drop much, if at all, but the price of the used mkl may hild, if not go up slightly, due to the much higher cost of the new mkll.
It will probably play out much like the 5dmkll and mklll.
A year or two after I bought my 5dmkll, all the mkl owners were saying they where gonna wait for the lll, since the mkll was already going on 3 years old. Then, when the mklll finally came out, few rushed out to get it, since it was almost $1000 more than the mkll, so they got nothing. Indeed, the initial sales where to those moving up from a crop cam and to pros, but not to those trading up.
Anyway, that's my spin on it. Good luck ;-)

I don't keep up too much for I am NOT in the market, but I was under the impression that the 70d was an upgrade for the 7d. ?? NO ?? Or at least that it what I was told at the camera shop.

Canoe, the 7 and the 70 are completely different model lines. That's why one has two digits(xx), for the consumer line, and the 7(x)is a single digit, representing the semi-pro/pro-sumer line. Then the #1 series is the pro line.
You could be right, but if so, the 7 has gone backwards! ;-)

I would look for a refurbished 7D. I bought mine from B&H, for a little over $900. Refurbished is the way to go on such a older body. There are many on the market. But, be sure to get a refurbished camera from Canon, not some other company. Canon refurbished are brought back to real Canon specs. I've had mine now for 2 years, not one misfire or problem. You will also get the Canon 1 year warranty too, just like a new one.

I bought a used 7D from KEH Camera last November. It was less than $900, and the camera had only 3200 clicks on the shutter. Cosmetically, it looked like a brand new camera, and I have been very pleased with it.
