I have been to Arches a number of times, and have never been able to figure out where is the spot where Mittens can be seen through the arch. I have looked and looked and never found it.
Welcome

I just found my way to the forum today. I've rifled through the forums and have found lots of great content to go back and read today!

My name is Bret Edge. I am a professional landscape, nature and adventure photographer in Moab, Utah. My wife and I also own The Edge Gallery on Moab's Main Street. I first became interested in photography in 1999 as an extension of my love for the outdoors. In 2006 we moved to Moab (photographer's paradise!) and I began leading private and group workshops, as well as aggressively marketing my work to photo editors at magazines, calendar companies, tourism organizations, etc.

In addition to outdoor photography I enjoy hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, cayoneering. I also love to road trip and camp with my family.

Looking forward to participating in the forum and hope to get to know a few of you!

Hi Bret. I must say you live in a most wonderful part of the world. I was lucky enough to visit Moab last year and was blown away by the landscape around. I was on a tour so only had two days but would certainly love the opportunity to visit again one day. An amazing place. I did call into your shop while there also. Welcome to UHH.

Welcome

Wrong park...the Mittens are located in Monument Valley about 100 miles south of Moab and straddles the UT/AZ border.

Sorry about that.
I forget what it is called, but the shot is framed by one of the three (two) arches and has the formation that looks like a gloved hand sticking up and another one that looks like a monkey.
You have the shot on you web site. It has a guy using a tripod taking the shot.

That's it. The question is how to you get to the back side of North Window. The last time I was there to check it out there was a steep dropoff and no place to stand.
Was i in the wrong area?

Bret, I love Moab! I have stayed at the Red Cliff Lodge there with the Colorado River at my back door. I love the Professor Valley.

I am a newbie here too.

You were in the right place. Accessing the spot requires a bit of a scramble over some slickrock with about 20' of exposure. There's only enough room for 2-3 tripods and people. Specific directions to this location, as well as 18 other spots in Arches NP, are in my e-book The Essential Guide to Photographing Arches National Park.

I also stayed at Red Cliff Lodge. Our room was right on the river too. Such a beautiful spot and an amazing part of the countryside. :)

Red Cliff is a great place to stay. There's a lot more to do out in that area than people know about. There's even a slot canyon with a double waterfall!

On my last trip I got up at 4am in order to do window mesa. Had breakfest at Denny's and the sky opened up. Goodby windows .............goodbye Moab hello reno. Drove 12 hours and 700 miles in one day. Haven't done that in 40 years.
Arches is my second of the np. Yosemite is number 1. Willing to go to either anytime.

I think I'm getting too old for this type of climbing. I can go almost anywhere except the walk up to delicate Arch. I ran out of wind half way up and turned around and walked back down. They need to install a chair lift for old farts like me.
