Please let me introduce myself.
I am new to photography. Looking to buy my first DSLR camera. Just recently retired from the military. Debating on Nikon D7100 or Canon 70D for my first camera.
Welcome to a fun, informative and addictive forum! Looking forward to your images.
Retired Navy gal here :)
Welcome. If you get the Canon
Lots of Canon glass to be had. Seems like you couldn't go wrong with either. All the aftermarket glass is available for both so
Maybe, go to the camera store and see what fells better in your hands. Thanks for your military service.
Welcome to the Hog, kevlon. Both good cameras and I agree with trying to get up close and personal whith them to help with your decision. ;)

Hello and welcome to UHH.
Welcome and enjoy
Canon 70D sounds good to me as a Canon user but the Nikon is good too
I'm retired USN also. I've had my D7100 for almost a year and love it but I agree you couldn't go wrong with either camera. Find a good camera store and see how they feel in your hand. If you have friends who have either DSLR it's great to share info, experiences and (maybe) lenses.
Welcome to the UHH Kevlon.
Welcom TO uhh.My good friend of many years was a CANON user all his young life ,has just changed to the d7100 well pleased with quality etc.
Enjoy your retirement.Dave

Toss up since you aren't into either camera and you can't go wrong but examine them to your particular taste and go for the one you like best..It's the photographer that takes the photographs not the camera it's just a tool. I,m a Nikon man but I have used em all in the past Olympus,Canon,Nikon, Leica,Pentax, Minolta,Fuji,Sony... a good photo can be had by all/
Check out my photos on Viewbug under nikondaddy and she how i use a camera...
Welcome to UHH Kevlon. You have picked two very good cameras. Can't comment on the Canon as I shoot Nikon, the D7100. The D7100 is one awesome camera. Too many bells & whistles to state here. Do your homework on the models you are considering. Get to a camera store and handle them. See how they feel in your hands. You maybe able to rent those models and take them out for a test drive. Only you can make the choice. Have fun and enjoy the forum.

Thanks for pointing out about renting the models. That's a very good idea.
Thanks for all of the tips. I think I will rent to see what I like best. Thanks again. Any tips on a good rental shop. In the Savannah Georgia area?
