Well bummer after 10 months and over 1800 shots later my Nikon D7100 came up with the dreaded oil spot problem that has plagued the D610, it is going off tomorrow and will hopefully be back home soon good as new. I was hoping that this would not happen but as with everything made in mass production there is bound to be some that slip through and Nikon backs up their product well.

The D610 has not been "plagued" with an oil spot problem.
That problem that you are referring to, was with the D600, and the D610 has had a design change to eliminate it.

Nikon replaced my entire shutter mechanism and cleaned the sensor on my D600 after the warranty period. Works great now.

This is the first I have heard about the D600 oil spot problem with D7100's. Have others had this problem? ;)

I had it on my D7100, too impatient to send it off so I had it cleaned at a local shop for $50, no spots since. When I first got them I poked around online and it did not appear to be an uncommon issue...

do you know of any problems with the D7000. I just bought the 7000 because I could not afford the 7100. thank you.

Not that I have heard but when I took it to the local camera store where I bought it they did a search and found that there was a small amount that have had this problem

Yeah that was an option but as it is still under warranty I will send it to Nikon and let them give it a good work through, I hear they do a thorough cleaning and check while they have it.

my d7100 threw a few spots in the first 1000 captures.
haven't seen any new ones in the last few months.

Figure i'll give it another couple months to shake the dew off the lily and then do a routine "wet" cleaning.

I thought I had an oil problem, but my Dealer said that it was probably dust. Gave it a good blow with the blower and that sorted it. He said that he had not heard of a single D7100 with oil issues and they sell a lot.

You might be overreacting. Just because you see some spots, that doesn't mean you have a "dreaded oil spot problem." How did you find the spots?
