Here is a freeware program, that is better than the trial versions, as it has no limitations. It use to be a little agrevating to install, but I see they have added an installer to it.
There is also a documentary for it, it is a PDF file I suggest you download it also.

Here're a couple early shots processed using the Nik HDR software. The software tamed the dynamic range of these shots, and rendered a useful image, although the noise in the shadows showed and required further processing in CS5. Generally, I go for a more natural look.

I have cs5 and you go can do HDR but photomatix gives a forever free trial with watermarks and the cool thing is you can process a single photo
Pretty cool

Is there a free trial or download to try HDR? Does anyone know if it can be done on adobe CS5 program? thanks
Photomatix is considered among the best programs and it offers a free trial. HDR can be done in PS, but not as easily and effectively.
DXO IS GOOD PHOTOMATIX IS OK I USE CS5 EXTENDED
Yes, it is cool to process one photo using HDR software. This technique actually saves processing time. Nik HDR software also does a single photo, either in the RAW file format (from Bridge) or in the native *.PSD file format of CS5. Did the one below in Nik HDR software this morning, and converted it to b&W in CS5. Note that Nik HDR software can also produce a b&w image, but it now has limited presets for this treatment.

I use Nik and if you want to use a single picture shot in JPEG you must first convert to a 32 bit which is very simple to do. I really like Nik

I googled hdr darkroom and found the link. I purchased it for 9.95 and it downloaded and installed fine. I tried to process some landscape shots and they are ok, not really the shots I want to process. For the money I can see what I think about hdr before spendin g $100.00
Check out Unified Color
www.unifiedcolor.com, who offers several versions of HDR Expose. You can download a 30-day free trial and I would suggest Expose Express to try. After 30 days if you do not purchase the program you can still experiment with it but you cannot save anything. The program works like a charm.

Hi i never tried HDR with cs5 but i have photomatix and HDR darkroom. Both have trial software available. I happen to like hdr darkroom best but my copy of photomatix is quite old and they have a new version. I was just too cheap to pay $99 for it I got HDR darkroom 9.95
If you decide to buy Photomatix, it is easy to get a 15% discount. Google HDR software and you will eventually find a site that offers the discount. Try stuckincustoms.com. I think that's where I got my 15%.
I have Photomatix, and I love it. When it does the combining, it gives me about thirteen different versions of the result, from B&W to grunge. After you make your choice, you can make additional modifications in PS.

Agree with Jerry re Photomatix-- and I also used the 15% discount. I know photo merge can be done in PS-- but I like programs that make it easy. I've experimented with taking a single image and creating three separate TIFFs adjusting the lighting levels and then merging. Fun to experiment.

Hi egglady: Yesterday someone here at UHH suggested ReDynamix add on for Photoshop Elements. (it's supposed to be a plug in for most all Adobe photoshop program's) The examples they had of how it imitated true HDR were really great. I down loaded a trial copy for free. The regular copy is $20 or $49 I saw both prices listed at their website. Now the only problem is I can't find it anywhere but in my program files and if I click on it there it opens elements 10 but I can't figure out where it is or how to use it once the program is opened. Go figure...
Look under Filter / DCE Tools.
