Photographing the small birds

The smaller the bird, the tougher it is to get a good shot...they are like nervous balls of energy allowing you barely enough time to find them and get focus before they have come and gone! Their small stature exceeds the cameras minimum auto focus settings allowing the other nearby elements in the zone to interfere with the cameras ability to lock-in on the proper subject. I find that the use of the SPOT metering setting offers the best chance of getting that desired shot.

I hope that these shots of some of the tiny ones in my yard will be of some value to you.

You are correct and those are great pictures. My Wren
is driving me crazy trying to get him still anywhere for a
shot. I see him every morning out the Sun Room window
but he sees me also and the least bit of movement and he is gone.
Thanks again for sharing. mdh

Nice captures. Those chickadees do give me fits. They flit into the birdfeed and are out just that fast. One almost needs to be lucky to even catch them. Sometimes I try multi-shot and hope one of them comes out for me.

Hi Bob,
Those are some pretty great shots of the birds. I especially liked the dark-eyed Junco. Doesn't look like you had any trouble at all shooting them. Of course pros always make things look easy.
