Well, I prefer my wildlife in natural settings, but lately a number of snowy owls have been showing up in the DC area...downtown, at the airport, and this one at a shopping center. So, you take your wildlife where you can find it!

Lucky you! Now just send them a little bit farther south. I'm keeping an eye out & I don't care what kind of setting he/she lands in.

They've been seen in Hatteras and Ocracoke apparently...right on the beach! THAT's where I'd love to photograph one!

Haven't seen any in my neck of the woods. Is Maine too cold for them?

Actually, I think your area is better for them than ours in Northern Va and definitely better than where they've been seen in the Outer Banks of NC. Sightings our way are VERY unusual and I've heard different reasons, including a shortage of food further north....

snow owls come from the arctic therefore its almost never to cold for them. They prefer wide open grasslands like where they are from thus airports are a preferred location. They feed on small ducks and birds and any small mammals they can catch,so in an area that has beaches and open water might be a good place to look. We have several around our area one at the airport one at a sod farm.To get an idea where one might be in your area you can go to cornel universitys ornithology labs web site [e bird .org]they have a siteing section.Good luck in seeing one they are gorgeous and large birds. If you do see one please be courteous to our visitors from the north!!!
