That would be "Adorama". They and B&H are reliable, knowledgeable, stable and first class vendors to deal with

I've had extensive experience with both and highly recommend both.

I've always taken the position that you don't really need premium glass for 80% of the pictures you take, especially portraits...but it's a tragedy to get that once in a lifetime shot and not be able to do much with it because the lens wasn't up to the task.

Go with the glass. You Know today before you really learn to use your present body thier coming out with a new one.It takes time to really learn about a camera like pushing a button without looking changing iso, apeture,wb etc. REALLY LEARN TO USE YOUR CAMERA.

You and Nikondaddy bring up a very good point. That is to REALLY know your camera and lens settings. I will be honest and admit I do need to know how to switch from one setting to another and to know what results I am going to get every time. I have been taking more time with my camera to learn more of the intricacies of the settings and to experiment with them.

Also, the part about me wanting to sell some of my pictures is not to do it full time but for supplemental cash possibly when I get towards retirement. I plan on posting some pictures in the near future for critique. :-) Cheers.

The way I wrote that last post makes it seem like I don't know what I am doing with my camera. What I meant to imply is that I can't switch from setting to setting without looking at my camera. I know what the settings do, but I do need to experiment more so I know what I am going to get picture wise before I even take the shot. Hope that makes more sense.

One of the features that I love about my 5d Mark 11 is the button that shows me all of my setting at one time. I can flip to the one I want to change and off I go.

"A" could also be Abes of Maine?? They also have very good ratings and I would not hesitate to buy from them.
.
Anyway - - on what to do: Depends on whether you ever intend to upgrade to a full frame camera AND if you do, whether you intend to keep your 40D as a back-up.
.
There are a lot of value-oriented reasons to stick with the crop sensor bodies - however if you just HAVE to have the FF because you're either considering Pro photography OR the bug has bitten you that badly (I'm sorry to say - there is no cure - trust me, I'm a doctor) AND you can have only one camera body (because your significant other has threatened to leave you if you get a second camera) - then you may as well begin the migration now because the EF-S lenses won't work on Canon's FF bodies.
.
OBTW - - rumor has it that the 5D-MkIII might be released in ?May? - at which time the 5D-MkII's in the distribution channel MIGHT go at reduced prices??
.
IF you are satisfied with the crop sensor world (as I am), BUT you want some added capability, I can highly recommend the Canon 7D (I sold my 40D to get one). The 60D is a move up from the Rebel series while the 7D is a move up from the 20, 30, 40, 50D series. I find the value of the EF-S lenses (or the third-party competitors) hard to beat - while being able to use the high-priced Canon "L" series glass for specific tasks is a big plus for the crop sensor cameras.
.
Good luck, FlatHead, and just remember - should you or any of your IM force be caught or killed, the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions.

I agree with Merlin to invest in the lenses and keep your body. I was fortunate that I was given a 50D from my wife. I use my D60 as a second body which still takes super pics with the L lenses. I keep my 70-200 on my 50D and my 300 L on my D60.

If you are satisfied with the results you are getting with your 40D, and you are happy with the way the camera feels in your hands. I would always suggest that you purchase good glass over a new body. I migrated from the 40D to a 7D and also shoot with a 5D Mark ii. If you have money to spend invest in lenses. I would keep an eye on the future should you decide to upgrade to a full frame body, 5D, 5D Mark ii and invest in EF mount lens.

Hi Dun1,
I am satisfied with my 40d results and know I can squeeze more out of her. I just purchased the 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Canon lens and my next purchase will probably be the 100-400 L lens. Later on in my future I will probably upgrade to a FF DSLR, but that is a ways down the road. Always something to spend money on. ;-) People might see some of my lens for sale here in the near future. Cheers.

Good choice! You will like the 24-105 and will really fall in love with the 100-400 when you get it.
