Great Jan, number three is my favorite!! All wonderful, hope you get to see that owl too. I have never seen one.
Excellent series! Sandhill Cranes are one of my favorites. Have not seen any in our area of Southern Oregon yet this winter but keeping my fingers crossed.
I love the composition in #1, but they all are very well done. Beautiful birds.

Great series,we get to see and shoot them at Sandy Ridge Res. sometimes.
Always good to keep your options open--one door locked, another open! Fantastic finds, don't tell them they were a second thought. I love that bright red around the eyes, added pop to otherwise browns and gray habitat.
Great Sandhill Crane Pictures and also checked out those bluebirds on your blog from the summer and they were really the best bluebird pictures I've seen. Curious; where do you take your pictures? PA or SC or from wherever?
Good, solid work.
I caught part of a PBS program on Aldo Leopold a couple months ago. I think the nature conservancy owns his farm in Wisconsin, and they were interviewing a woman, who was either his daughter (a biologist) or the caretaker of the property, I wasn't sure. She said one morning she heard a sound coming from the wetlands that she'd never heard, but she knew instantly what they were: sandhills. They had returned after a long absence and apparently a bout with near-extinction. Aldo's writing had so accurately depicted the sound she recognized them!
I think there' a chapter in Sand County Almanac that's called Goose music. Along with geese, the sound of sandhills is one of the great musical symbols of wild nature.
  awesome as always Jan
WOW!! These are awesome shots! Glad you were able to get something to photograph. Well worth the trip outdoors. I hope you will get that pic of a snowy owl. :D

Very nice! We had a few of these guys in Albuquerque this year but not nearly as many as in the past.
Thank you Psergel...they're a first for me up here...although I did manage to capture some photos of them in South Carolina.
