Actually, washy, after the competition, I was speaking with one of the judges, and mentioned that I was not happy about that branch, and his answer was "shame on you", that branch gives it depth and is part of the reason that it is a good photo. Again, it really is subjective. Everyone has their own opinion. I just try to glean as much as I can from the comments to improve my photography. Thanks for your comments. Appreciate your looking in. Sue :-D

Exactly that is the problem with competitions, one judge likes the image and the next one hates it. A month ago this image was not placed in an "open " competition by a judge who abhorred any software influence on an image, yet another judge last week placed it 1st in a competition against 64 other images, some you win !! Three months ago it was 6th out of 143, so it goes to show, if you believe in your images keep entering

Is that your photo washy? It looks awesome, and yes, I was told that judging is subjective... I used to get annoyed by that, but I don't look at it like that anymore. I find it a real challenge to try to figure out what judges may like. I enjoy photography so much, that I keep snappin' photos in the hopes I will come up with something "I" like... I'm my own worst critic!! Thanks for the note... Sue :-D

Yes it is very subjective that is the problem with judging. I love some of your images on your flickr site. are some shots of humming birds ? When I enter comps even club comps, I always look up the judges web site so I can get an insight to what he/she takes images of ie. if a judge takes images of landscapes I try and enter landscapes etc.
How easy was it to set up your flickr site?? Best wishes from a very wet Dorset

Thanks for checking out my flickr site, washy. I had to open that site to enter a competition with Nikon. It was quite easy to do. If you get into the Flickr site, they walk you through it as I recall. Yes, I spent all last summer waiting for a good hummingbird photo op. I literally took, I am sure, over a thousand photos. I did get quite a few I was happy with though... Those on Flickr were some I liked the best. That's an interesting take on checking out the judges. Thanks again, washy, "keep klicking" Sue
