I am a full time professional bird photographer specializing in birds in flight. I suggest the Canon 1Dx with the Canon 600mm F4 IS L II with and without 1.4x and 2x extenders.

Mr. PC Wanted to say thanks for input . Have some homework to do and shopping. Will look online for the best price. Noticed your pic posted . Was that taken in Texas or out of ? Heard about a ranch with stock brought in awhile back . Austin is a nice town . Was there awhile back . One of those places one visits and wants to return . Has both old and new . Well thank you for your help ,did not want to make a expensive mistake . regards pmailman.

Picture was on a photo safari in Kenya. Large aperture to make background blurred, I like that picture a lot. Also, follow some of the other advice here, go try some cameras in the store. Also, I've learned a lot here and from my camera. If I use a pre-programmed scene mode in the camera when I'm learning to shoot a portrait, landscape, night cityscape, whatever, I return to my computer and make note of all of the settings that the camera chose. I can then run in Manual or usually Aperture priority mode and use those settings as a starting point the next time I'm in that same situation. One exception is that high speed Sports mode, when you need it, you need it right away. Good luck!

Wanted to Thank you for advice and your help. You spent the time to teach , so I wanted to take time to learn and to say thanks. Africa is a beautiful country for sure . Was over for work and did not have a camera of my own to use . We leave personal gear back here . But learn where and who to go to later in life on one's own time and dime. Experience i have found to be the learning tool in life . Why I always when possible to ask , those that have been there and done it. It cuts down the mistakes one can make . The blurred back ground could have been the heat .Same as in Texas in june / july at high noon . I do not know if camera lenses cut out any distortions like does with weapon optics .As long as one has the right filters to use . Still got a lot to learn but in time I will get there . Just have to learn so to pick and choose equipment and advice wisely . Anyway many thanks ,take care , and enjoy Austin . Regards pmailman

Thanks for input ,will check out your advice . Have not bought yet . Still learning and in time will buy . Do not want to make a costly mistake . Learned awhile back to just buy what i need . Hate moving and or having to relocate / a transfer . I will check out your suggestions for sure before I buy . And with any high tech gear pick and choose the best I can . Look at the same as a mobile phone in a way . I always go with the basic . Not the smart for some and dumb for me brand . Thanks ,take care ,regards mailman

I don't know if anyone else mentioned this. For B-I-F you might wnat a gun mount. It has a stock that rests in in your shoulder and a trigger in the grip. An essential for fast moving targets.

I agree with sharpshooter and Jim Neiger about their choices for birds in flight photography. Other options will work but the op asked for the best.
