I am interested in advancing my photo editing software to CS 5.
What is confusing to me as a newbe is besides the price what is the difference between CS5,,CS5 Extended,,,CS5 Student and extended versions ?? I am not interested in any video retouching whatsoever just digital photos . I really like the puppet morph feature but not sure if all versions offer it
I Would appreciate your expertise on this matter ..
Thank You

I would recommend getting Student CS 5. You should also consider just buying Photoshop Elements 10 to get started with your photo editing. Arnold

CS5 is all you will need for photograhy. I got my copy a full week before Adobe released it and have used it steadily since.

Student and teacher edition will save you some bucks. You have to be a qualified teacher or student before you can register the program or use it.

Bootleg versions are out there but I know of several people that had their copies deactivated by Adobe and cannot use any other copies. NOT WORTH THE EFFORT!

Content aware is one feature I use at least 3 or 4 times a day! This allows you to remove an object or person from a photo and retain the data under the object.

Just so you know, CS6 is being released soon. You might want to wait.

i would wait also for CS6

the biggest difference is 3D if you don't do rendering, modeling. then i would stay with standard.

CS5 Extended adds 3D modeling to all the other tools in CS5. The "Student"/"Educational Version" is identical to the full price software but one has to qualify with Adobe before they will sell you the license.

From the wording of your post, I get the impression you've already been using image-editing software, and now went to advance to the full Photoshop.

If you buy CS5 now, then no doubt Adobe will offer an upgrade to CS6 at a reduced price.

BTW: Do not become beguiled by Adobe advertising for Lightroom. If you do a lot of batch processing (as does, say, a wedding photographer), then yes, you may wish to consider Lightroom. Otherwise, stick with Photoshop.

CS5 refers to the "Creative Suite Version 5" which retails at over $2,000.
It has bit image (like photography) editing, vector editing, Web authoring, Video Editing, and Video Special Effects production software choices.

What you WANT is just Adobe Photoshop, PART OF the CS5 Suite, which retails at about $699 by itself.

Student Editions are much cheaper.

I use the whole suite, and paid the full price. OUCH, but we are up to V5.5 at this point, and we are completing effects for a feature film in Suite B while I am doing graphics, editing, and photo work in Suite A. Our editing is on Final Cut. The olde Final Cut prior to v10.
