To answer your question...my brother notifies the parents that a photographer will be onsite that day to take pictures. The parents are not asking for their child to be photographed. However once they see the shots there has been some inquiry about paying for the photos by the parents.
OK - in that case, the information you have received about sites like SmugMug and other sites is good. In the past I have shot some sports but only after the parents have requested that I get images of their child. In that situation, I emailed small proofs directly to them along with a price list and sales were quite good since they asked for the images.
In your case, the shotgun approach is the best you can hope for and the SmuMug model works as well as any.
If you do end up using smugmug, Please feel free to use my coupon code to save us both a few bucks :-)

Yeah, it was a shameless plug.

I am taking pictures of kids playing sports and would like to know the most efficient way to provide the pictures (whether via email, share from the cloud or use a service to get the pictures printed and mailed to the parents)? Does anyone do this and what method do you use? What is the basic rate would you charge?
Any ideas are appreciated.
Thanks
I use Drop Box and my fee is "free" as they are the teams that my grandchildren are on.

I shoot my son's CYO Basketball games and put them on Picasa Web and send them to all of the parents (no charge)...However with the camps, it wouldn't be a bad thing to try and figure out a way to charge those who are willing to pay for their photos.
Oh - the other thing you asked was what to charge. Hard to know what your market is like, but I charged $29 for an 8x10 and $19 for a 5x7. If they wanted a 4x6, that was $12 or 3 for $30.
I know many here will say that is expensive. Well, I was not there for charity and the images were excellent. The vast majority were repeat customers who were willing to pay for high quality sports images.
If you are going to do this, do not sell then at give-away prices as the people who will buy will usually buy at any reasonable price level.
