I think it should be a right to protect those you love and those that choose to invade one’s home, the right to defend yourself as you see fit. In the UK, it seems we can’t do anything, I speak from experience as I was attacked by a gang, luckily my daughter wasn't at home, and I was arrested while the perpetrators ran off. I think everyone should have the right to defend those they love from the nutters in this world.

If I could I would have a Barrett .50 by the door...

To tell you the truth, a Barrett would be a little over the top (especially if you have neighbors). Honestly, a DPMS LR-308 (7.62 NATO) with a couple extra magazines would serve nicely. In lieu of that, a couple of 1911s in .45 ACP with rail extensions to mount laser/lights & extra mags will definitely fill the bill (I'm partial to Sig Sauer, S&W and STI). Go with 230 gr. hollow points. Even if they don't expand, the weight alone will knock them down.

I agree with what Dad taught me and might add what I have taught my children and my wife.

I'll use my .243. I'm not too picky on the size of the hole going in, but I surely happy with the size of the hole coming out. As far as handguns go I prefer a revolver. The way I see it there is less chance of malfunction and if I am doing my job properly only one shot is necessary. Happy shooting.

I think this is the way it goes:

This is my rifle,
This is my gun.
One is for shooting,
And one is for fun.

Or, this is for shooting,
and this is for fun.

And I wasn't even in the army.

The nice thing about autos are that they're fast to reload. Cheap guns are more likely to jam (and that goes for revolvers and autos, I've seen it happen).

However, I'm willing to split the difference. I have a REAL nice S&W Model 625 in .45 ACP from their Performance Center that takes pre-loaded full or half moon clips. With a little time at the range, reloads are just about as fast as an auto.
