Question regarding PC monitor for PP

I'm currently in the market for upgrading my
post processing techniques from a single
to a double PC monitor system. The singe monitor I'm
using is a 4 year old Viewsonic X LCD series that is excellent for
post work. Unfortunately, it seems to be discontinued. Can anyone of you aficionados recommend a decent second Viewsonic or comparable monitor without having to take out a second mortgage?

Get an HDTV/MONITOR. Make SURE it is BOTH! For about 50 bucks more they stick a TV tuner in your monitor and you have a lot more use out of your monitor. I use a Samsung SyncMaster T260HD to edit photo, video, quality check DVDs and Blu-rays, and can still watch TV on it.

I do both photo and video.

Most people who do a lot of PP will tell you to get a IPS monitor. They range in price from under $200 at Costco, Sam's Club and probably elsewhere to thousands of dollars. The Dell 24" & 27" IPS monitors seem to be very popular among typical users. Seems to me they are in the $400 to $600 price range. Eizo are very good but their cheap ones are not highly recommended while the $2500+ ones are.

You didn't say what size monitor you are looking for and you didn't really say how much you were willing to spend so it's hard to make a recommendation beyond what I said above.

Since you like Viewsonic here is one that is relatively inexpensive. http://www.viewsonic.com/us/vx2770smh-led.html

Or look here: http://reviews.cnet.com/best-27-inch-lcd-monitors/

Personally I have the NEC PA271 but I didn't pay anywhere close to the MSRP listed.
