nikon d80 repair

My old reliable d80 won't auto focus and has been diagnosed with a wore out shutter release button. That said, I several problems. First is that I have been told it is a gray market camera. (thanks b&H, won't be buying anything from you again). Secondly, Nikon says they won't fix it because it is a gray market. Third, a reliable camera repair that will work on a Nikon seems to be non-existent in Denver. Ideas, recommendations?

Thanks
Mark

A google search found this in Englewood. Maybe they can help you: http://www.metrocamera.com/camera-repair

We have a camera repairman right here on the forum, Rick Riggins. He's been in the business for thirty years, works out of his house and keeps the cost down. I've had some work done by him and some others on the forum have to. Everyone sounds satisfied. His prices are very reasonable. Give him a call or email and see what he says. He has a web site, here's a link

Good luck

Thank you!! I was hoping to find someone like Rick--I sent him an email and since I am a somewhat free spirit worker, I can easily drop the camera to him.

I bet it would be cheaper to buy another than to get yours repaired. Get a shutter count before you bid. If you do get another, sell yours on ebay. There are lots of "for parts" cameras listed there.

Get a quote before you send it in and then compare that with costs for used Nikons on Craigs list. You might be able to upgrade to a D90 or D5200 for not much more than the repair.

I see that there's a lot of good advice given I'm just wondering-do many people have this problem? A worn shutter release button? Really?

B&H often sells both USA & gray market products and says so in their on-line products pages. I'm surprised they sold a gray market Nikon and not say so on their web page. Ya gotta read the fine print.

I'd bet that's a very rare problem.

I had the same problem, Rick Riggins (member of this forum) fixed my D80. He communicates well and fast turn around. I highly recommend him.
