Having Lunch Red Tail Hawk

First photo was taken in the spring in Nebraska. I had seen the hawk go to ground and watched its behavior. When it took to flight I didn't notice it had the ground squirrel in its talon. Some 4 months latter I got another chance and captured photo 2. I try to shoot always in av priority with only a single center focus point. I would like some feed back on the pros and cons of using the single focus point. Photo 1 Canon 50D 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 L IS. Shot at f5.6. ISO 320, 340mm. Photo 2 Canon 50D 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 L IS. Shot at f11. ISO 3200, 400mm.

Center focus is the only way to get your subject in focus with the confusing back ground. or for me it is.

Thanks, I sometimes wounder if using all points to focus would result in a depth of field that would put everything in focus. But to do that it would have to slow down the shutter speed to the point the movement would not be in focus. I guess I just need to continue with what I'm doing and hope for the best.
