I've used B&H over the years with good results. But last Christmas I received a Kirk L bracket for my 60D with battery grip. I removed it from the packaging but never had it on the camera. It is brand spanking new. But, a week ago I traded the 60D for a 6D. Today I called B&H to ask about returning it and trading for a similar item for the 6D. I was told that, without the original Kirk packaging, which I had discarded, they would not accept any returns, even tho I had the receipts and shipping docs. I normally keep all packaging for new products but for some reason didn't for this item. I don't know how you all feel about that but I think they should have been willing to do a trade even if they had to charge a reasonable restocking fee.

It will probably fit the 6D but will be a little off center in the portrait position. One of my brothers is a machinist and may be able to modify it. Could even try to sell it on UHH, don't know yet.

Bad experience?
Your asking way too much.
Lets say they had "traded" with you, now they have a "used" product without the original packaging .
Why should they lose money because you traded cameras?

I just had an amazing experience with B&H. Ordered Lightroom 5 upgrade and license number was nowhere to be found. Looked all over the place but it was not in the box. Adobe basically told me to pound sand. Called B&H and they gave me an RMA with free return label for UPS. Three days later received a new Lightroom 5 which did have license key and I'm all set. They are the best.

I think we need to look at it through the eyes of B&H. If they did that for all of their many, many customers, they would soon be out of business. I side with B&H on this one.

Would you want to buy a new item out of original package?

B&H is awesome. They have been extremely good and responsive to me. I was in their store during Thanksgiving and the experience put me on major overload.

I've bought many things from B&H and they clearly say returns must include original packaging.

B&H are blameless in this matter. What are they to do with your item returned minus packaging? They are a business after all, not a charity.

Without the original packaging B&H will have to sell your return as used and personally I think you're asking them to pay for your mistake. You threw the packaging away and it was you who made the choice to trade for a new camera and now you want B&H to take responsibility for your actions. Sorry but I have to side with B&H on this one.

Ditto for me.

I certainly do not see that B&H did anything wrong. Why would they take your L bracket back without the original packaging? What are they supposed to do with it? Would you buy it from them without the packaging? Even with a restocking fee they still do not have the packaging.

Why don't you offer it for sale in our classified section at a discounted price?

Just curious, either way it really does not matter, but did you buy your new 6D from B&H?

People need to read the original post a little more carefully.

Let's say the plate for both the 6D and 60D is $200. B&H has a used department, and perhaps the can sell the plate used (LN) for about $170. If they give him credit for the plate, minus a 15% restocking fee, he gets $170 to use for the 6D plate, and pays the $30 extra. When the used plate sells, B&H has a total revenue of $400, with one immediate sale and a second subsequent sale. The OP would have been happy to pay "a reasonable restocking fee", which exists for a situation like this.

It is possible that B&H does not sell the plates in its used department, and that's why they wouldn't take it back. But here's the result of that: the OP sells the plate online and buys the 6D plate. From Adorama...

If they sold a $200 L bracket for $170 as an "open box" item without the original packaging, would I buy it? Absolutely!

Maybe so. But it all depends on what the poster feels is a reasonable restocking fee. Maybe he will sell it to you for $170! :)
