Thanks for sharing those photo's, I really like the bag you have, and that setup is great as well. I will set things up on my GW and take a few photo's for ya. I see you already the RAM ball mount mounted to your bike for your Garmin. At that point all you'll need is a couple of longer arms, and you'll have what I have. I use the 1" ball mount on my bike. I love the way RAM came up with the mounting set up. I have two on the left side of the bike, One holds my Garmin, and the other holds my water bottle. I have only one on the right, and that one holds my D3100 and my little midland 720p HD action cam. So as for being set up, I think I'm doing good. Though I'm going to order a three suction cup RAM cam mount. It'll work great on the trunk, or even the saddlebag.... By the way, where did you purchase your tank bag ?

The brand/model of the tank bag is Chicane Baja and I bought it at a BMW rally in West Bend, Wisc in 2007. I "Googled" Chicane Baja Tank Bag and it sounds like the company is out of business but you may find some on EBay? I'm attaching a picture of my GW loaded with the tank bag in Glacier National Park on our 5008 mile, 14-day loop through 14 states in the Northwest USA in July, 2010. We camped in tents 10 out of the 13 nights. It is designed to carry a camelback water bag/drinking tube in the bottom. The best tank bag I've every owned.

It is a Nolan N-100 which is several years old. I have a mic and speakers installed wired to the audio plug for the GW. It is a flip up style and here is a link to one on E-Bay. I think the current version they make is N-104 and are designed to have a wireless N-Com installed in them.

Thanks Bob, I have seen a lot from Nolan and I think they have really improved there product over the years, I just didnt realize that was one of them.

I was just notified I won a Schuberth S2 Helmet from Roadrunner Motorcycle Tour and Travel and am set to go pick it up at a dealer in the Chicago area next month when I go up for the International Motorcycle Show. I am not familiar at all with the german made brand so really looking forward to getting my hands on it. The ad campaign makes it out to be a real winner. Off the topic, sorry, just explaining.

Here is what I use but I don't go more then 100 miles to get the picture I want.
I use a Tamrac back pack and carry a canon 5d II with a Sigma 24-70 , Sigma 150-500 and a Tamron 70-200 with extra cards, batteries and chargers. You can see I have my tri pod strapped to the rear rack. I will be using this setup this spring going to Sedona, Havasu Falls and surrounding areas.

Wow... Great looking bike you have there Bob, and talk about being loaded, You was loaded for bear (sorta speak) But when your out on the road for as long as you was, you need to take along everything your gonna need. I'll share a photo of my set up with ya, back when I rode back home to the Mojave Desert in so ca. I kept it kinda light, but yet had everything I needed. Anyway, Here are the photo's I took for you today. I set things up as if I was wanting to shoot photos using a tripod. The set up works really well. If I was to ad anything else, I'd ad one more arm
a 4" would work great, but what I have now works fine.

being a back seat rider I wear mine around my neck...
nice light weight Olympus OMD.
When I don't feel like carrying it, the bike has two hard side cases and I get one. I slip my camera, an extra lens and some other stuff into my purse and it fits into the side case. When I ride a bicycle, I put the camera cross my body and swing it around so it is hanging on my back. that way it doesn't swing into the handlebars.

I have never had a bird poop on me. I have experienced rain and the gear is safe in the side case. I don't ever drive the motorcycle...and if you have anything more than a point and should I would advise getting off the bike to take the shots....would hate to dump the bike for the sake of a pic. Have you considered a helmet cam?

Does anyone have a good system to haul photo gear on a motorcycle to ride around and take pictures - either on a short jaunt or a long trip. How do you assure there is no damage (vibration, rain, dust, bird poop, etc) to the equipment? Any special technique to take pictures without getting off the bike (assuming you have stopped the bike)? I'm anticipating Spring is just around the corner.

Thanks Greg, Yep, it sure does. I will only use it when I'm parked and bike is on the side or center stand. I would never try using it for taking photos while riding, however I do mount my little action cam to it, and it works pretty good. When I took my trip out west I didnt have the case for the cam so I got a got real bad noise from the wind blowing into the mike. Now that I have a case, that should put an end to that problem. I'll post a photo or two of it. I have some video clips on you tube that I took with the little cam. If ya care to see them I'll post a link in the link section. Keep in mind most of them are noisy as heck... I think I did manage to hide the cam behind the windscreen and that helped a bit...

My brother has a cam like this he mounted to his remote control helicopter. He has some cool videos from it, but the sound never changes.

Greg - I have a Tamrac bag just like yours for my Olympus OMD bodies and lenses - works out great! Thanks for the feedback.

I love your "rampod" setup. Is there any chance you could provide a link for the exact components you used? Of special interest is how you connect the camera body at the top. I would like to try to figure out how to mount a quick-release base at the top so it would be quick to attach/detach the camera. I appreciate the time you took to take and post the pictures - it sure helps visualize things better.
